Erickson, Arenz, Rein, Goeden and Schmidt Win Extended Features at PDTR
on July 11, 2016 at 11:35 amGrand Nationals rolled trackside with James Pagel (St. Cloud) and Matt Loehr (Mt. Calvary) setting the pace for a 30 lap feature. Pagel jumped out to any early lead with Loehr and Josh Pierce (Fredonia) close behind. A caution waved before lap 1 was completed for four cars colliding between turns three and four. Pagel regained control as Justin Erickson (Plymouth) was slowly passing cars after starting fifth. Richard Hed (Plymouth) and Mark Fieber (Cascade) battled for fifth. Second caution waved for more cars spinning in turn 4. Erickson was all over Pagel on the restart, Pagel managed to hold on. Dave Holm (West Bend) and Brad Weiss (Cascade) battled for twelfth. Matt Yancey (Sheboygan) went outside Tyler Kulow (New Holstein) for seventh. Weiss spun and hooked turn two tires bringing out another caution. Erickson took control of the field with Loehr, Pagel and Fieber three wide behind for second. Caution for Skindzeiewski spinning and retiring to the pits. Erickson had a train of Loehr and Fieber behind. Yancey was competing for fifth place with Pagel. Pierce fell back and attempted to hold off Brian Cesar (Sheboygan). Erickson was up to lapped traffic on lap 18. More and more drivers dropped to the bottom of the track and drove signal file as they were in search of the leader. Loehr was on Erickson’s bumper in each corner then loose him on the straightaways. Dave Holm spun in turns three and four to bring out our final caution. During restart Matt Jackson (Sheboygan) broke his rear axle and took the hook back to his pits. Erickson regained control of the field with Loehr and Fieber in tow. Yancey passed Hed for fourth. Loehr continually attempted to pass Erickson in each corner. Last week winner Brian Cesar retired to the pits early. When the checkers flew on lap 30 Erickson won his first feature, followed by Loehr, Fieber, Hed and Yancey. Hard chargers were Jeff Lammers and Jamie Theobald each passing 9 cars.

Cellcom B-Mods were next with Dan Melton (Rhinelander) and Jeremy Walvoord (Howards Grove) set the pace. Melton wasted little time to lead lap one. Few drivers battle three wide for third. Brandon Berth (Cascade), Melton and Larry Zirbel (Iron Ridge) competed for eighth. Melton was pulling away but Cody Eickberg (Plymouth) was already up to third. Patrick Hanson (Sheboygan Falls) brought out a yellow for spinning in turn two. Melton managed to pull off the lead as Travis Arenz (Sheboygan) and Eickberg battled for second. Eickberg pulled out to the lead and caught up to lapped traffic. Caution waved for Rory Welch (Cedarburg) stopped in the pit exit. Eickberg and Arenz each had a strong restart. Jerry Duggan (Manitowac) and Chad Vetting (Valders) competed for fourth. Arenz tried inside and outside Eickberg for the lead. Brandon Berth enjoyed the friendly competition out front, allowing him time to catch the leaders. Glen Blanke (Sheboygan Falls) passed Melton for eleventh. Gary Glander (Sheboygan Falls) pulled off with mechanical issues. Duggan was trying everything to pass Berth for third. Arenz managed to take over the lead and steadily pulled away. Arenz, Eickberg and Berth had a consistent distance between themselves from the rest of the pack. Yellow waved for Tim Thurn (Horicon) broken and needed a hook. Arenz had another strong restart as Berth passed for second. Duggan lost his drive shaft bringing out a caution for his debris. Arenz had a final strong restart over Eickberg and Justin Green. Blanke went outside Vetting and Zirbel for fifth. Checkers waved for Arenz followed by Eickberg, Justin Green (Sheboygan Falls), Berth and Vetting. Hard Charger passing 7 cars was Brandon Berth.

Twenty lap Micro Sprint Feature was next with Andy Rein (West Bend) and Denver Larsen (Shiocton) who made up the front row. Rein advanced to the top spot with Denver Larsen and Tory Strauss in tow. Jake Goedlein (Sullivan) was up to seventh. Emily Portschy (Plymouth) pulled into the infield with mechanical issues. Zach Boden (Cambridge) was zipping through traffic in search of leader Rein. Rein held a half track lead by lap 6. Ty Springer (Eagle River) was running in third and had his hands full with Boden right behind. Rein caught lapped traffic. Yellow flew for Strauss who lost a tire. Rein regained the lead after the restart. Denver Larsen and brother Dylan Larsen were side by side for fifth. Boden was reeling in Rein in the closing laps. Rein caught lapped traffic again. Springer retired to the pits. Checkers flew for Rein, followed by Boden, Chad Bogar (Cottage Grove), Denver Larsen and Dylan Larsen. Hard chargers were Boden and Bogar both passing 7 cars.

Aldag-Honald Mechanical Sprints were next with Jim Melis (Glenbeulah) and Lance Fassbender (Burnett) setting the pace for this 30 lap feature. Fassbender jumped out front with Ken Jay Fiedler (Sheboygan Falls) in second. Melis went to the high side and fell info third. Doug Wondra (Oakfield), Wil Gerrits (Waupun) and Nich Melis (Plymouth) were three wide for sixth. Gerrits spun and caught the wall which brought out our first caution. Fassbender and Fiedler battled on the restart for the lead. Melis slid past Fiedler for second. Donny Goeden (Kewaskum) went outside Fiedler for third. Justin Miller (Plymouth) and Anthony Knierim (Franksville) were battling for seventh. Fassbender was slowly pulling away as Goeden worked on Melis for second. Kurt Davis (West Allis) and Ryan Mayr (New Holstein) swapped fourteenth. Fassbender had lapped traffic ahead of him, Goeden right behind. Mayr spun bringing out another caution. Melis went inside on the restart but short lived as Goeden slid past to lead. Tim Haddy (Waupun), Andrew Westphal (Fond du Lac) and Knierim were three wide for tenth. Fassbender led the next lap and was working on lap traffic as Goeden maneuvered his way through and passed Fassbender to regain the lead. Westphal and Jason Johnson (Campbellsport) battled for eleventh place. Goeden separated himself from Fassbender by putting 6 lapped cars between. Fielder passed two side by side lapped cars. Mayr spun again bringing out our final caution. Lapped cars pulled out on restart with five to go. Goeden pulled ahead on the restart with Melis in second and Brandon McMullen (Plymouth) looked to take third from Fassbender. Chris Clayton (Waldo) lost ninth from Westphal. Doug Wondra and Fielder continually swapped fifth. Double checkers flew for Geoden, second went to Melis followed by Fassbender, McMullen and Wondra. Hard chargers passing 11 each were Goeden, McMullen and Davis.

Final feature event of the evening were the Johnsonville Sausage Late Models for 30 laps. Justin Schmidt (Cleveland) and Brad Mueller (Random Lake) made up the front row. Green flag flew and Mueller wasted no time taking over the field. Jim Schmidt (Cleveland) went inside son Justin to take over second. Scheffler (Waukesha) boys surrounded Tim Buhler (Glenbeulah) for fifth place. Mueller continued to lead with Jim Schmidt close behind, both slowly pulling away from Justin Schmidt in third. Taylor Scheffler passed dad Rick Scheffler for fifth and next was uncle Russ Scheffler. Mueller had a half track lead over third. Tim Buhler and Rick Scheffler battled back and forth for sixth. Taylor Scheffler went high and passed Russ for fourth. Mueller was sailing through lapped traffic, passing on the high and low sides. Taylor Scheffler was working on Justin Schmidt for third. Charlie Schmidt (Oostburg) brought out a caution and slowed on the backstretch with mechanical issues. Mueller remained out front on the restart with back panel damage from a lapped car. Jim Schmidt snuck down low and passed Mueller on the restart. Taylor Scheffler looked inside Mueller to take over second. Justin Schmidt continued to hold off Rick and Russ Scheffler for fourth. Chris Carlson (Union Grove) looked outside Buhler for eighth. Jim Schmidt continued to lead but Taylor Scheffler was realing him in. Justin Schmidt went inside Mueller for third. Jim Schmidt crossed the checkers first followed by Taylor Scheffler, Justin Schmidt, Mueller and Rick Scheffler.
