July 4th weekend at PDTR brought some great racing …

Johnsonville Sausage Late Models rolled trackside first with Ron Stroika (Mukwonago) setting the pace. Justin Hirt (Tigerton) didn’t make the call after motor issues during his heat. Mitch McGrath (Waukesha) jumped out to an early lead over Stroika to lead the first few laps. McGrath pulled away from the pack and Stroika went high and got loose allowing Jim Schmidt (Cleveland) and Chris Carlson (Union Grove) to pass. Tony Peterson (Big Bend) left to the attention of his crew. Justin Schmidt (Cleveland) battled Turk Letizia (Milwaukee) for fourth. Brad Mueller (Random Lake) went inside Charlie Schmidt (Oostburg) for eighth place. David Jaeger (West Bend) attempted to get past Mueller on the low side. McGrath had a front stretch lead over second of Jim Schmidt. McGrath was up to lapped traffic that was racing 2 and three wide. Jim Schmidt was slowly reeling in McGrath thanks to lapped traffic. Last week winner Mueller was working outside Randy Markwardt (Sheboygan) for seventh. McGrath and Jim Schmidt cleared lapped traffic and pulled away from the field. When the checkers flew it was McGrath over Jim Schmidt followed by Carlson, Justin Schmidt and Letezia. Feature was 22 seconds off track record. Hard chargers passing 5 each were Justin Schmidt and Tim Buhler.

Heat Winners: Justin Schmidt (Cleveland), Brad Mueller (Random Lake)

Cellcom BMods took to the track with driver introductions followed by twenty five laps of caution free racing. Brandon Knepprath (Kewaskum) and Glen Blanke (Sheboygan Falls) led the field to the green. Blanke pulled ahead quickly with Brandon Berth (Cascade) in tow. Todd Jensema (Sheboygan Falls) fought Knepprath for third. Brian Konitzer (Sheboygan) left to the attention of his crew. Rookie driver substituting for Gary Glander pulled into the infield. Berth got past and steadily pulled away from Blanke who battled a left front tire issue. Cody Eickberg (Plymouth) came up through the pack quickly, passed Jeremy Walvoord (Howards Grove) for fifth. Patrick Hanson (Sheboygan Falls) pulled into the infield again. Berth held a half a track lead over second and approached lap traffic. Knepprath attempted to hold of Eickberg for fourth. Jensema went outside Blanke for second. Eickberg looked outside Blanke for fourth but doesn’t make it stick. Double checkers flew for Berth followed by Jensema, Blanke, Knepprath and Eickberg. Berth set a new track record of seven minutes and four seconds. Hard charger was Cody Eickberg passing 6.

Heat Winners: Brian Konitzer (Sheboygan), Todd Jensema (Sheboygan Falls)

Matt Yancey (Sheboygan Falls) and Melissa Singer (Waldo) set the pace for the Grand National Feature. Yancey shot out to the lead over Brian Cesar (Sheboygan) to lead lap one. Jeff Lammers (Plymouth) and Tyler Kulow (New Holstein) battled for sixth as Mark Fieber (Cascade) and Jamie Theobald (Sheboygan) were side by side for fifteenth. Brad Weiss (Cascade) and Justin Erickson (Plymouth) attempt to go around Singer which brought out our first caution. Cesar was penalized two spots for continually hitting the infield tires. Yancey led the field to the restart and quickly advanced over Brad Weiss. Brian Cesar looked inside Justin Erickson for third. Matt Loehr (Mt. Calvary) and Lamers swap fifth place. Another caution waved for debris. Erickson looked inside Yancey for the lead on the restart. Fieber, Loehr and Kulow raced three wide for sixth. Yancy had company as Cesar looked to the inside in the corners. Yancy was up to lap traffic in turn two which didn’t go well, touching and tangling occurred on the back stretch bringing out another caution. Four drivers go to the pits and all make it back in time for the restart. Erickson restarts first with Cesar and Steven Weber (Plymouth) competing for second. Final caution waved for Weiss coming to a stop backwards in backstretch pit entrance. Cesar went outside Erickson to take the lead, Erickson wasn’t given up easily. Erickson led the few laps by a very short margin. Cesar was trying everything to get past and did by a nose just as the checkers flew. Third went to Weber followed by Fieber and Loehr. Hard charger passing 17 was Mark Fieber.

Heat Winners: Tyler Kulow (New Holstein), Brad Weiss (Cascade) and Brian Cesar (Sheboygan)

Anthony Knierim (Franksville) and Al Schlafer (Sussex) brought the Aldag Honald Mechanical Sprints to the green. Schlafer advanced to the top spot and was advancing quickly over Paul Pokorski (West Bemd). Andrew Westphal (Fond du Lac), Spyder Akright (Sheboygan Falls) and Tony Wondra (Campbellsport) raced three wide. Schlafer was flying out front. Donny Goeden (Kewaskum) and Jim Melis (Glenbeulah) were both quickly advancing after starting eleventh and twelfth. Tim Haddy (Waupun) worked on Brandon McMullen (Plymouth) for fourth. Pokorski was looking inside Al Schlafer as they approached lap traffic. Schlafer touched wheels of Nich Melis (Plymouth) and flips in turn one, brought out our first red. While realigning cars another red flew for Pokorski as he pulled into the infield with a fire under the hood. Knierim was our new leader and had many veteran drivers right behind. Haddy wasted no time and pasted Knierim for the lead. A quick caution waved for Chris Clayton (Waldo) coming to a rest. Another caution waved for Lance Fassbender (Burnett) who jumped the restart and advanced a position. He was penalized two spots on the restart. Haddy had a great restart holding off McMullen. Two more cautions waved one for Fassbender spinning and the other for Kevin Karnitz (West Bend) stopping for throttle issues. Melis went high and passed a few cars on the restart on his quest for the lead. McMullen and Goeden battle over third place. Kurt Davis (West Allis) was slowly picking off one car at a time as he moved his way up through the field after transferring in from the BMain after motor issues in his heat. Haddy had another awesome restart with Melis and Goeden right behind. Doug Wondra (Oakfield), Danny Schlafer (Sussex) and Anthony Knierim were three wide for fifth. Haddy pulled away from fellow drivers and the final caution waved for Justin Miller coming to a stop backwards on the front stretch. With time limit exceeded race was checkered.
