on June 29, 2016 at 11:36 amWILMOT, Wisc — June 29, 2016 — The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series O’Reilly Auto Parts Badger 40 at Wilmot Raceway in Wisconsin is quickly approaching on Saturday, July 30. The Outlaws have reached the halfway point of the season, which has been a very competitive one thus far, with 13 drivers having reached victory lane through June 25.
Leading the way is seven-time and defending series champion, Donny Schatz, who has a series-best 10 wins. The North Dakota native took the point leader earlier this month and has extended his lead over the last couple of weeks. Schatz is a former winner in the state of Wisconsin at both Beaver Dam Raceway and Cedar Lake Speedway, but is still looking for his first victory at Wilmot Raceway.
Brad Sweet, who drives for Kasey Kahne Racing, is currently second in points and led the series standings for the first four-plus months of the season. The California native has won six times and is near the top of the leaderboard in top-five and top-10 finishes, as he chases his first World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series title.
Daryn Pittman, the 2013 series champion, who is Sweet’s teammate, currently rides third in points and has five victories. Pittman is a past winner at Wilmot Raceway with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series.
Shane Stewart, who finished second in points last year, is currently fourth in the standings on the strength of five wins. Driving for the Larson Marks Racing team, which is co-owned by NASCAR driver Kyle Larson, Stewart has been one of the most consistent drivers on the tour this season, as he is second only to Schatz in top-10 finishes earned.
David Gravel, one of the youngest drivers competing full-time with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series, has three wins and has risen to fifth in points. The Connecticut native has finished among the top-10 in every race contested thus far in the month of June. Gravel won the series’ most recent race at Wilmot in 2014.
Joey Saldana, who is closing in on 100 career A-Feature wins with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series, has four wins thus far in 2016 and is sixth in points. Jason Johnson, who has a win, rides seventh, with Jason Sides, who also has a victory in eighth. Logan Schuchart is currently ninth, with Paul McMahan rounding out the top-10. Jacob Allen, a second generation driver, is 12th in points, driving for his father, Hall of Famer Bobby Allen.
A pair of drivers are contending for the Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Award this season, led by Greg Wilson from Ohio. Wilson was victorious on Memorial Day weekend in Charlotte. Clyde Knipp, a teenager from Missouri, who just graduated from high school last month, is also competing for the rookie crown.
