Rice Lake WI , June 25 – A hot, windy and sultry Saturday turned into a stormy evening in northwestern Wisconsin and one of a series of fast moving thunderstorm cells hit the Rice Lake Speedway around 5:30 pm, quickly turning what was a well prepared race track into a wading pool and ending all chances of racing on what was to have been Kid’s Night at the speedway.

Next up at the track is one of the highlight events of any racing season at Rice Lake and that is the annual Firecracker special slated for next Saturday, July 2. The fireworks display is one that has attracted hordes of fans for many years to the track and is a staple of racing at Rice Lake since the sixties. Along with both aerial and ground displays, all five divisions of race cars that normally race at the track will be action for a full race program. Warm ups are slated for 6:30 pm with racing to follow.
Since many race tracks are taking the holiday off, many out of town visitors are expected to join the local racers in what could very well be a memorable evening of racing.
The Kid’s night activities, including meeting with the drivers on the track before the racing program and bike giveaways, with the number of bikes to be given away now numbering over fifty, has been rescheduled for Saturday, July 9th.
Saturday’s rainout marked the fourth weather cancellation for the track already this year.
