Eickberg, Jackson, Strauss and Carlson win at PDTR
on June 13, 2016 at 11:42 amDrivers and fans were very patient as track prep took much longer than expected delaying the start to PDTR racing program, resulting in no driver introductions and a reduction of 5 laps in each feature.
First out were the Cellcom BMods with Brandon Knepprath (Kewaskum) and Glen Blanke (Sheboygan Falls) setting the pace. Blanke pulled out to an early lead over Justin Bauer (Sheboygan Falls). Brandon Berth (Cascade) quickly moved into fifth place after starting in the back. Patrick Hanson (Sheboygan Falls), Spencer Long (Sheboygan Falls) and Jared Rautmann thought three wide was a good decision for last place. Blanke caught up to lapped traffic with Cody Eickberg (Plymouth) looking inside lap after lap. Caution waved on lap six for Rautmann after contact with the wall. Berth and JJ Walvoord (Howards Grove) exited the track to the attention of their crews. Eickberg went outside Blanke on the restart and Bauer looked inside both. Blanke lost the lead to Eickberg on lap nine. Gary Glander (Sheboygan Falls) looked inside Bauer for third and succeeded. Caution waved for Bauer, Berth left to the attention of his crew again. Eickberg had a very strong restart with Glander in second and Blanke back to third. Checkers waved for Eickberg followed by Glander, Blanke, Knepprath and Bauer. Hard Charger passing 3 cars was Brandon Berth and Gary Glander.
Heat Winner: Justin Bauer (Sheboygan Falls)
Tory Strauss and Zach Boden (Cambridge) brought the Micro Sprints to the green flag. Strauss jumped out to an early lead with Boden and Andrew Rein (West Bend) in tow. Lap two red flagged waved for Andrew Rein flipped in turn four. Strauss took control on the restart as Boden looked inside. Caution waved for Eric Casper (Kiel) who spun in turn four. Jake Goeglein (Sullivan), Emily Portschy (Plymouth) and Zach Rein (Kewaskum) unfortunately unable to continue with mechanical issues. Strauss did not withstand a chance as Boden immediately passed him after the flag stand. Boden continued to pull away from the field. Tyler Tischendorf (Waupaca) pulled to the infield for mechanical reasons. Jack Vanderboom (Dousman) and Eric Casper swapped sixth place on lap eleven. Boden approached lapped traffic on lap thirteen, just as his motor made some noise and he pulled into the infield. Strauss was back in control of this feature. Dylan Larsen passed Denver Larsen (both from Shiocton) for second. Checkers waved for Strauss who held a half track lead over second of Dylan Larsen followed by Denver Larsen, Eric Casper and David Collins (Lake Mills). Hard Charger was Dylan Larsen passing 5.
Heat Winners: Zach Boden (Cambridge), Denver Larsen (Shiocton)
Tyler Kulow (New Holstein) and Ben Konen (Richfield) lead the Grand Nationals to the green. Konen quickly controlled the field with Kulow in second and Matt Jackson (Sheboygan) looking in. Melissa Singer (Waldo) went outside James Pagel (St. Cloud) for eighth. Jackson moved into second. Steven Weber (Plymouth) and Melissa Singer touched a few times running down the backstretch. Donny Singer (Waldo) had mechanical issues and slowed. Jackson and Justin Erickson (Plymouth) passed Konen for the lead. Pagel raced through the infield between turns three and four. Richard Hed (Plymouth) attempted to hold off Jeff Lammers (Plymouth) for eleventh. Ben Konen ran over tires in turn four and was unable to continue resulting in a caution. Pagel was penalized two spots on the restart for racing through the infield under full power. Weber and Brad Weiss (Cascade) both left to the attention of their crews. Jackson had a strong restart with Brian Cesar (Sheboygan) looking to pass. Matt Yancey (Sheboygan) joined in the battle for third. Pagel and Josh Pierce (Fredonia) ran side by side a few laps for eighth. Weber was moving passed competition on the high side after returning from the pits. Jackson slowly pulled away with the lead. Erickson went inside Cesar for second, Yancey stuck his nose in but unable to keep up. Mark Fieber (Cascade) looked inside Yancey as the white flag came out. Checkers waved for Jackson, second went to Erickson followed by Cesar, Yancey and Fieber. Josh Pierce was the hard charger passing 6.
Heat Winners: Mark Feiber (Cascade), Brian Cesar and Matt Yancey (both Sheboygan)
Jim Letizia (Milwaukee) and Billy Rezutek (Big Bend) brought the Johnsonville Sausage Late Models to the green. Letizia pulled away with the lead over Chris Carlson (Union Grove). A few cars got sideways and collided in turn two but continued without a caution. All cars were enjoying this fast tacky track, driving cars into the corners completely sideways. Red flag flew on lap four for Taylor Scheffler (Waukesha) catching the berm and flipping between turns three and four. Jim Letizia remained in control on the restart, Carlson held off Brad Mueller (Random Lake). Justin Hirt (Tigerton) got sideways in turn two and continued on but not before collecting others who tried avoiding him. Caution waved and five drivers went to the back. Letizia had another strong restart with Carlson and Turk Letizia right behind. Brad Mueller regained third spot. Carlson looked inside Letizia for the lead and took control. Dave Thomas (Franklin) and Hirt swapped eighth place. Russ Scheffler (Waukesha) went inside Jim Letizia for third and Rick Scheffler (Waukesha) attempted to pass Letizia as well. Hirt went outside Tim Buhler (Glenbeulah) for fifth. Carlson pulled away from Mueller; meanwhile Russ Scheffler was gaining on Mueller. Mueller saw the bumper of Scheffler and took off like a rocket. Mueller closed in on Carlson. Double checkers flew for Carlson followed by Mueller, Hirt, Russ Scheffler and Rick Scheffler. Rick and Russ Scheffler shared hard charger duties each passing 4.
Heat Winners: Tony Peterson (Big Bend), Tim Buhler (Glenbeulah)
Aldag Honald Mechanical Sprints pushed off last with Jim Melis (Glenbeulah) and Doug Wondra (Oakfield) setting the pace. Melis jumped out to an early lead with Brandon McMullen (Plymouth) behind. Tim Haddy (Waupun) and Danny Schlaffer (Sussex) side by side for seventh. Melis slowly pulled away from McMullen. Derek Seigel (Milwaukee) retired to infield with mechanical issues. Ken Jay Fiedler (Sheboygan Falls) and Schlaffer battled eighth, while Shane Wenninger (Kewaskum) and Lance Fassbender (Burnett) battled for position deep in the field. Fassbender brought out our first caution after coming to a stop in turn four. Melis had another strong restart as McMullen attempted to pass on the low side. Ryan Mayr (New Holstein) brought out a caution for spinning; Paul Pokorski (West Bend) went to pits and returned for the restart. Melis held off McMullen again on the restart, Tim Haddy and Schlaffer attempted to pass McMullen going three wide for second. Donny Goeden (Kewaskum) was trailing waiting for them to make a mistake. Melis is pulling away as driver’s battle over second spot. A red flew for Shane Wenninger taking a very hard tumble. Unfortunately Wenninger would need to be transported for medical attention and time limit was reached. With less than 10 laps completed all drivers received equal pay and equal points.
BMain Results: Andrew Westphal (Fond du Lac), Lance Fassbender (Burnett), Spyder Akright (Sheboygan Falls), Garrett Timothy (Brownsville), Ryan Mayr (New Holstein) and Derek Siegel (Milwaukee). Alternate will be Bill Taylor (Adell)
