Rain and Wind force Race Cancellation
on June 11, 2016 at 5:52 amFor the 3rd Week in a row the races at Eagle River Speedway were cancelled due to weather. It was not just the sudden down-pour late Friday Afternoon, but high winds, and the loss of power that forced the postponement of the popular Tori Stevens Memorial Race.
Many parts of Eagle River lost power less than 90 minutes before the Hot Laps were to begin.
“All we can do is hope the weather pattern changes and we can finally get back to racing. The June 17th races will feature the Spectator Races, and the following week we will run the Tori Steven’s Memorial Race,” explained Eagle River Speedway Promoter, Kevin Dawson.
The legendary Track is in it’s 42 year, and most cannot recall where 3 of the first 4 races of the season were cancelled due to weather. The 1/3rd Mile Tri-Oval was to run a Micro Sprint 600 Series race, along with 2 special nights featuring the Speedway Trucks. All of which has been cancelled.
“This past Friday Night it was not just the rain, but when the track and the area lost power, that was the ‘clincher’ for cancelling the races and postponing the races,” commented Dawson.
The June 17th Spectator Races gives people with Street Legal Vehicles the chance to race against another driver. Those interested need to register as early as possible. Registration opens at 5:00 pm CT.
The Spectator Races is in addition to the tracks regular schedule of 5 classes. That includes the WISSOTA Midwest Modified and Street Stock, the 85+ MPH Micro Sprint 600’s, the popular Pure Stock, and the fun-to-watch Junior Sprints.
Hot Laps will begin at 7:00 pm CT, with racing to begin at 7:30 pm CT.
