Jim Falls, Wisconsin (June 09, 2016) The Eagle Valley Speedway was in action on Thursday, June 09, 2016, when Budweiser and Country Fest sponsored all six classes of cars including the EVS Hornets, EVS Pure Stocks, and the WISSOTA Poly Dome Dirt Track Series sanctioned Street Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Super Stocks, and Modifieds. The wind and warm weather made for a tricky racing surface as it became slick as the night rolled on. Feature winners included Jake Hartung, Tommy Richards, Michael Truscott, Travis Hazelton, George Richards, and Chad Prissel.

The Modified feature pitted Dave Baxter and Ashley Anderson front row as Mike Anderson joined them on lap one as the three raced side by side for the lead. Baxter slipped back to third as the Andersons remained side by side on the second circuit. Mike raced down low as Ashley used the momentum of the high side to lead on lap three. Ashley Anderson lead through the hallway point as Mike Anderson continued to run within striking distance down low. It was Jake Hartung who began to prove he was the force to be reckoned with as he raced below Mike Anderson and set off to chase down Ashley Anderson. Hartung was on rails as he closed on the leader, drove under him for the point, and stretched his advantage to the checkered flag. Ashley Anderson drove home in second as Mike Anderson finished third. Kevin Adams and Jay Richardson finished in the top five of the caution free event.

The Super Stock feature saw Tommy Richards taking the point on three aborted attempts to start the race, only to be relegated back to the original starting position of third each time. First, a spinning Eric Zietlman drew the caution. The second yellow flew for a six car melee in turn three which included the very strong Curt Myers who was able to continue. Don Muzzy went to the work area and returned at the back of the field and Zietlman’s night ended on the hook of a wrecker. The third slow down saw Eric Schultz spinning and Jim Harris stalling at the exit of the track.

The fourth time was a charm as Richards once again drove to the lead and Myers moved to second in the first circuit. Richards was strong though as he stretched his advantage over Meyers. The caution flew again as Myers rolled to a stop in turns one and two ending his night. Richards lost his huge cushion, but it wasn’t a factor as he continued to dominate on the restart. Terran Spacek drove to second and himself stretched his lead over third at the line. Luke Schultz, having a very nice run, built an advantage over fourth place finishing Eric Shultz who was involved in a spirited battle and got the best of Muzzy at the finish.

This writer has been waiting to see Michael Truscott flex his muscles this season as he has been fast, but not as dominant as in the recent past. Starting from the outside of the third row in a stout field, this was his night to shine in the Midwest Modified feature. Shane Halopka grabbed the early lead from the second row but Jake Smith fought back down low to take the point. Truscott used the higher groove to overtake Halopka, close on Smith, and drive into the lead. Truscott didn’t leave the strong runners behind however, as the followed him to the checkers. Smith finished a strong second as Halopka won a nice battle for position over Nick Koehler. Bob Wood drove home to yet another top five finish.

The Street Stock feature saw a tremendous amount of action for a small field as pole sitter Travis Hazelton drove side by side for several laps with Ron Hanestad. Danny Richards joined the duo and drove to the inside of Hazelton for the lead as Hanestad suffered a flat tire and spun. The caution flew and Hanestad ducked into the work area and Hazelton returned to the point. Hazelton led under green as Kolby Kiehl and Richards made it three wide. Kiehl edged into the lead but Richards hooked a tire in the bottom of turn three and spun. The caution saw Hazelton back in first on the restart as Kiehl spun slowing the action before a lap was completed. Again on the restart, Hazelton lead the way as cars went three wide to try to claim the win. It was Hazelton moving out front as Richards searched the racing surface for a way past and Kiehl closed on the leaders. Hazelton was not going to give it up though as he pumped his fist in the air as he drove home to the checked flag. Richards settled for second as Kiehl finished a strong third. It was Dalton Hazelton and Ron Hanestad rounding out the field.

The Pure Stocks saw George Richards take the lead on lap one and drive cover to cover in the caution free event to win his seventh consecutive feature in 2016 at various tracks. Todd Roshell raced to second and held a comfortable lead over third finishing Lucas Kallenbach who won a good battle for position over Nicholas Hazelton. Dean Pronschinke rounded out the top five finishers.

The Hornets saw heavy racing action early for the lead as Austin Berger earned the point from his pole position. Dan Prissel raced to second, but was passed by Derrick Johnson. Second was a coveted position as ninth starting Chad Prissel took the position and chased after Berger. A spinning Ashley Seidler reset the field as Berger lead with Chad Prissel glued to his bumper at the halfway point. Chad Prissel made a fine move to overtake the leader and continue on to back to back feature wins at the Valley. Berger finished second as Jason Junker made a last lap pass for third. Derrick Johnson and Dan Prissel rounded out the top five.

The Eagle Valley Speedway will return to racing action on Thursday, June 16, 2016, with Gordy’s / Coca Cola Night featuring all six classes of cars with the EVS Hornets, EVS Pure Stocks, and the WISSOTA Poly Dome Dirt Track Series sanctioned Street Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Super Stocks, and Modifieds be in action. Thanks go out to the fine sponsors each week, including Oium Blacktop and Kelly Oium Well Drilling and Pump Service who give away a bicycle to one boy and one girl every racing night.
