ABC Raceway Puts Spotlight on Mid-Mods this Saturday
on June 10, 2016 at 10:18 amAshland, WI — For over a dozen seasons now, the ABC Raceway has set aside one night on its schedule for each of its five weekly racing divisions, offering each class its own “spotlight” event.
The first of those divisional headliners for 2016 will be held this Saturday night, with the tenth annual “Mid-Mod Madness” program for the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds, to be presented by the NAPA Auto Parts stores of Ashland & Washburn.
The feature race for the Midwest Mods will pay a whopping $1,000 to win, thanks to some very generous contributions. In Victory Lane after the run, Mid-Mod racer and former track champ George Dalbeck of Dalbeck Logging of Ironwood, MI, will hand out bonus checks to each of the top five finishers, while drivers finishing in the fifth, tenth, 15th and 20th positions will benefit from the graciousness of Lake Shore Cafe of Ashland.
The program will kick off in a big way right after hot laps with the make-up features from the shortened May 21 event for the WISSOTA Pure Stocks and ABC Six-Cylinders. A complete race program is then on tap for all five divisions, with the WISSOTA Modifieds and Super Stocks jumping in.
Also included in the evening’s festivities will be the announcement of the inductees for the ABC Raceway Hall of Fame for 2016.
The make-up features for the Mods and Supers are tentatively set for June 18, while the Mid-Mod make-up A-main will run on June 25 – the same night as the rescheduled Kids’ Meet the Drivers festivities.
The nine previous editions of this mid-season Mid-Mod series at ABC have been won by eight different drivers, proving just how competitive this division can be. Only Dalbeck – who won in 2010 and again in ‘12 – has repeated in this event.
Ashland drivers Steve Stuart (2009) and Travis Nye (‘13) are the only two “Madness” winners to continue on to earn ABC points championships after winning this event. And three drivers – Clint Larson of Proctor, MN (2007), Matt Leer of Bruce (‘11) and Jesse Aho of Twin Lakes, MI (‘15) – scored their only career feature wins in Ashland by claiming this event.
The other winners were Greg Chesley of Duluth, MN, in 2008 and Ashland’s Ryan Adamzak in 2014.
Younger fans ages 3-8 are also invited to sign up for the ABC Raceway Kids’ Club at the track just prior to the races this Saturday. Included in a membership are a Kids’ Club t-shirt, concession coupons, a checkered flag and more.
The Raceway’s live pre-race radio program, “Z-93 Race Night,” will air Saturday on WBSZ, 93.3 FM, and online at www.wbszfm.com, from 4:30-6 pm with up-to-date track news and weather information.
Hot laps begin at 6:15 pm, followed by the first of the two make-up features at 7. Adult tickets are just $11 each, and kids ages 12 and under are admitted free with a paid adult admission.
The ABC Raceway is located 3-1/2 miles south of Ashland on State Highway 13 and one mile west on Butterworth Road. For raceday information call (715) 682-4990, or log on anytime to the track’s website, www.abcraceway.com.
