Jim Falls, Wisconsin (June 02, 2016) The Eagle Valley Speedway was in action on Thursday, June 02, 2016, when Southworth Chevrolet, Tim’s Automotive, and the Miller Lite / Country Jam Promo presented the 2nd Annual Midwest Modified Special. The recent rains had the racing surface wicked fast as a great car count showed up to compete for the increased payout and the prestigious win. All six classes of cars including the EVS Hornets, EVS Pure Stocks, and the WISSOTA Poly Dome Dirt Track Series sanctioned Street Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Super Stocks, and Modifieds were present. Feature winners included Nick Koehler, Kevin Adams, Curt Myers, Mike Knudtson, George Richards, and Chad Prissel.

The Midwest Modifieds had driven cover to cover for two consecutive weeks, but when racing for $1000 in victory lane, the action was more aggressive. The yellow flag flew seven times before it was over, including one red flag condition for the rollover of Jake Smith. The racing action was intense under green as 24 cars took the start of the race. The feature was set up by four heats won by Eric Lamm, Cole Spacek, Nick Koehler, Gunnar Watkins, and a B-Feature won by Brandon Copp. Jason Vokovan, Tyler Werner, and Craig Elliott also found their way into the show finishing behind Copp.

Bob Wood and Curt Myers held the front row as Myers looked tough early. The first caution saw Joe Chaplin stall on the raceway and leave the track under yellow. The restart featured Myers in the lead followed by Wood and Koehler. Soon Koehler, who has been the toughest mid mod driver in the region as of late, swept into the lead. Myers held on to second as Grant Southworth moved to third.

A caution flag flew for derbies on the track and on the restart, Southworth overtook second but Myers fought back. The yellow flag was displayed again as Ross Fuhrman spun in one. Under green, Brandon Copp came to a halt and the caution was displayed again. Halfway through the race, Koehler continued to lead as Southworth and Myers waged a dogfight for the second spot. Gunnar Watkins looked strong in his SSR as he moved to fourth, and 12th starting Michael Truscott took over fifth.

A three car crash on the front stretch slowed the race again as Werner was called for the foul and sent to the rear. Werner spun on the restart drawing another caution and was sent pit side on the two caution rule. An altercation in turn two saw Travis Anderson, Bob Wood, and Jake Smith involved as Smith’s car rolled on its side. The red flag flew, and thankfully, all drivers were unhurt.

They lined up for the last time as they drove to the checkered flag thereafter. It was Koehler with the big win as Southworth wrestled second from Myers on the final lap. Watkins and Truscott were scored in the top five.

The Modified feature pitted Ashley Anderson and Kevin Adams on the front row as Adams took the lead and drove 20 caution free laps to victory. Directly behind him, Jake Hartung, Ashley, and Mike Anderson battled for position on the lighting fast surface, finishing in the same order. Dave Baxter came home fifth.

The Super Stock feature saw Curt Myers start fifth, get into Matt McEathron on the opening lap causing a spin, going to the rear, and driving to the lead on lap five. I can continue on and on, but he never relinquished his lead, driving to yet another feature win. It was Keith Corcilious leading early until the seventh starting Tommy Richards took the point on the high side. His lead was short lived as Myers asserted his dominance. Richards didn’t just go away however, as he stayed within striking distance of the leader and moved in close late in the race. He settled for second at the line followed by the strong run of Ben Hillman in third. Terran Spacek and Dan Nissalke rounded out the top five.

The Street Stock feature was lead to green by Dalton Hazelton and Kolby Kiehl as Kiehl lead early and looked very strong out front. Mike Knutson was fast as he moved through the field, overtook second, and closed on the leader. With three laps remaining, he passed Kiehl for the point and drove on to victory. Kiehl finished second as Danny Richards made a last lap pass of Sam Fankhauser for third. Dalton Hazelton finished in fifth.

The Pure Stocks saw Pat Smith take the lead from his pole position but George Richards passed for the point on lap two. Mike Knopps closed on the leaders and worked under Richards challenging for the win. Dean Pronschinke spun in turn four slowing the action. Richards held the lead as Knopps and Smith lined up side by side behind him. Coming to the white flag, Knopps made a bold move on the inside and took the lead at the line. Richards raced back under Knopps on the backstretch and retook the point on the final lap. Knopps tried the crossover move but was not successful as he settled for second behind the victorious Richards. The exciting race saw Pat Smith, Nicholas Hazelton, and Jeff Kallsen in the top five.

The Hornets saw Brett Slowiak and Jake Halterman on the front row as Halterman took the lead on the green. The first of several yellow flags flew early as Austin Berger spun in turn two and Dan Prissel was sent to the rear on the restart. Halterman again led as Cole Hill stalled on the track and could not clear the racing surface. Shortly thereafter, Chuck Wald spun and needed help off the track. Halterman continued to lead under green but eighth starting Chad Prissel ran him down and took the point. A hard crash into the wall saw Slowiak flip and a red flag condition. Once again, thankfully he was unhurt. The race restarted and saw Prissel driving to his first checkered flag of the year after finished either second or third in all eight of his previous runs. Late in the going, Brad York had moved to second but was overtaken by Armond Love with two laps remaining. It was Halterman and Jason Bauer rounding out the top five.

The Eagle Valley Speedway will return to racing action on Thursday, June 09, 2016, with Budweiser and Country Fest sponsoring all six classes of cars with the EVS Hornets, EVS Pure Stocks, and the WISSOTA Poly Dome Dirt Track Series sanctioned Street Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Super Stocks, and Modifieds be in action.
