Anderson over Hallquist in an Epic Battle
on May 22, 2016 at 10:07 amJim Falls, Wisconsin (May 19, 2016) Eagle Valley Speedway presented the Kim Parson Trophy Tour and Gordy’s Market night as the crowd was delighted by amazing racing action. The EVS Hornets, EVS Pure Stocks, and the WISSOTA Poly Dome Dirt Track Series sanctioned Street Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Super Stocks, and Modifieds were all in action. Feature winners included Mike Anderson, Curt Myers, Nick Koehler, Danny Richards, George Richards, and Derrick Jonson.
The Modified feature proved to be an outstanding battle for the win in a race long scramble for the point. It was a race which will be long remembered by the drivers and fans alike as two veterans raced essentially door to door without ever touching nearly the entire distance. It was Steve Hallquist and Paul Nitzick on the front row to lead the field to green. The yellow flag flew early on the start as Kevin Adams was escorted to the infield as he attempted to make a pass down low. The second attempt at the start saw Hallquist take the lead and Mike Anderson move to the top line to overtake second.
A spinning Brad Seavers drew the caution about a quarter of the way into the event setting up what won’t soon be forgotten. Hallquist lead Mike Anderson and Ashley Anderson to the green on the restart with the remainder of the field in tow. Mike Anderson quickly moved to the high line as Hallquist ran the preferred line down low. Although Hallquist laid down blistering fast laps, Anderson was able to wrestle his car around the top side and grab the lead. Hallquist wasn’t ready to give up the point however as he drove back below Anderson to the front.
The two cars drove door to door for 15 laps as Hallquist was on rails on the bottom and Anderson used every inch of the ultra-high side as his car scrapped against the front stretch wall at least twice at the flag stand. With two laps remaining, Anderson used a strong run down the backstretch to grab the lead and with one lap remaining he moved ahead to the slightest advantage. Hallquist likely ran his best lap of the race which included no faults for either driver on the final circuit, and was able to get a nose under Anderson coming off turn four on the final run to the checkers. It was Anderson who proved to be too strong at the line winning the barn burner. Paul Nitzick finished third over Brad Seavers and Ashley Anderson.
The Super Stock feature pitted Matt McEathron and Luke Schultz in the front row at the drop of the green but Curt Myers drove to the lead in lap one from the fourth position. McEathron spun drawing the yellow and resetting the filed. Upon the restart, Myers lead as eighth starting Tommy Richards moved to second and set chase. Although the race was slowed two more times by the spins of Mark Stender and Troy Fransway, Myers and Richards drove away from the field. Richards lurked in Myers shadow but settled for second at the line. Stender recovered from his early spin to finish a distant third as Schultz finished closely behind in fourth. Fransway, who returned to racing after a several year hiatus and is a rookie in the Super Stock division finished fifth.
The Midwest Modifieds drove cover to cover as Antonio Pintaro held the pole inside of Michael Truscott. It was Truscott to the lead as sixth starting Nick Koehler looked strong early. Koehler used the high line to take over second from Shane Halopka and move side by side with the leader. As they entered lap traffic, Koehler squeezed through for the lead and simply dominated the remainder of the race. Truscott, who had nothing for the winner, was dominant in his own right as he stretched his lead over third finishing Halopka as Bob Wood finished a strong bid for third settling for fourth. Pintaro was scored in fifth.
The Street Stock feature was lead to green by Dalton Hazelton and Kolby Kiehl as a caution on the start eliminated Travis Hazelton. A second attempt saw Kiehl drive to the lead and pace the first two laps. It was Danny Richards finding the lead on lap three as Kiehl remained in his shadow working the low groove. Ninth starting Cody Kummer found his way to third and closed on the leaders. It was Kummer finding a way past Kiehl down low and moving side by side with Richards for the lead. On the final lap, Richards was able to drop down in front of Kummer thwarting his bid for the checkers. Richards won over Kummer, followed by Kiehl, Kyle Gennett, and Dalton Hazelton.
The Pure Stocks pitted James Thur and Nicholas Hazelton on the front row and was quickly slowed as Hazelton spun with the help of Lucas Kallenbach. George Richards used the restart to drive to the lead as Kallenbach spun drawing the yellow. Richards drove off into the night for the win as a terrific battle for second was won by Hazelton. Cole Varsho, Pat Smith, and James Thur rounded out the top five.
A huge group of Hornets pitted Brett Slowiak and Shane Lindseth on the front row at feature time. The drop of the green saw the dominant Derrick Johnson drive from eighth to first in one lap. Although a caution reset the field. It didn’t take Johnson long as he moved back to the front and drove away from Chad Prissel, Armond Love, Brad York, and fifth place finishing Sean Svee.
The Eagle Valley Speedway will return to racing action on Thursday, May 26, 2016, as Gordy’s Market sponsors all six classes of cars with the EVS Hornets, EVS Pure Stocks, and the WISSOTA Poly Dome Dirt Track Series sanctioned Street Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Super Stocks, and Modifieds take the track. Thanks go out to the fine sponsors each week, including Oium Blacktop and Kelly Oium Well Drilling and Pump Service who give away a bicycle to one boy and one girl every racing night.
