April 16th, Race Night at the Rice Lake Speedway
on April 7, 2016 at 11:28 amRice Lake WI – Since the final checkered flag flew last Labor Day weekend, racers and fans of the Rice Lake Speedway have been waiting for another dirt track fix at the oval on Rice Lake’s North side.
Well, their wait is now over. The sixth fourth consecutive season of racing at the Rice Lake Speedway will commence on Saturday night, April 16th with the first green flag to fly at 6:30 p.m. The early melt and warm up this year has allowed track officials to get on the racing surface early, and despite several light dustings of snow in the last week or so, the track is ready for racing to begin. The ten day forecast is very promising with a gradual warm up predicted, and with temperatures slate to be in the mid sixties and sunny skies for Saturday the sixteenth, it should be an ideal night for the racing opener.
However, before the opening race, the track is slated to host two practice sessions that are very important to the drivers and also help get the track is shape for opening night. They are scheduled to be held on April 12th and 13th, weather permitting.
Opening night will feature the five classes of cars that make up the bulk of the schedule at the track throughout the season. They include WISSOTA sanctioned Modifieds, Super Stocks, Midwest Modifieds and Street Stocks along with Rice Lake’s own Pure Stocks. During the course of the Summer, Traditional and Winged Sprints, along with Late Models, will also be making appearances at the track.
Pit gates open at 4 p.m, the grandstand opens at 5 pm with the draw cutoff for drivers and warmups slated for 6:30 pm with racing to follow immediately.
Fans should monitor the speedway’s new website at www.ricelakespeedway.net or their face book page for updates, particularly about the practice sessions. The track phone number is 715-236-2002 or call Dave Adams at 715-205-2861 or Mitch Hansen at 715-205-1122.
