Eagle River Speedway Crowns Champions
on February 24, 2016 at 4:39 pmWith snow on the challenging 1/3rd mile Tri-Oval at Eagle River Speedway, racers gathered for the Awards Banquet. A banquet that not only handed out the 2015 Class Champion Awards, but also included the disbursement of $5700 in cash.
Taking home his 4th Consecutive WISSOTA Midwest Modified Class Championship was Jesse Aho. Aho, from Toivola, Michigan, also was voted by his fellow racers to get the Mark Glembin Car of the Year Award. Glembin, a past owner and racer at the track, passed away last year. Glembin received the 1st Bobby-0 Spirit award last year, which was voted on by racers and fans.
Eagle River’s Tadd Schoonover took 2nd in the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds, with Hurley’s John Kallas ending up in 3rdPlace.
Tomahawk’s Nate Langberg cashed in at both the WISSOTA year end payback and the Eagle River Speedway end-of-the year purse. Langberg held off Eagle River racers, Ryan Glembin and Ryan Valeria by only 21 and 22 points respectively to win the WISSOTA Street Stock Points Championship.
The Tomahawk area put another racer in the Class Championship Winners Circle. CJ Hedges won the Pure Stock Points Championship, and for the second year in a row, Eagle River’s Don Scharf took 2nd. David Blackberg, originally from Ewen, MI., now from Eagle River, took 3rd in the points.
Hedges, and family organize the Tori Stevens Memorial Race every year. The race is a fund-raiser to find the cure for Spinal Muscular Atophy. The 2016 Eagle River Speedway schedule has this special race planned for June 10th.
The schedule starts off with the May 13th Practice day. The first race of the season will be May 20th. The Friday Night races include many special features, including a 4 race Micro Sprint 600 series. Also on the upcoming summer schedule at the popular Northern Wisconsin Dirt Track is Redneck Games, Spectator Racing, and 2 Off Road Vehicle Side By Side XTreme Challenge races.
The track will continue a 42 year tradition of focusing on family entertainment and racing. This was evident last year when the Eagle River bother-sister tandem of Ty and Tommi Jo Springer both took home Class Championships. Ty won the Micro Sprint 600 class points championship, while his younger sister, Tommi-Jo captured the Junior Sprint Class points championship.
The Larson brothers of Denver and Dylan, took second and third in the Mircro Sprints. Taking a second in the end-of-the year Junior Sprints was Hunter Tingley and Dayton Rein.
The Junior Sprints will be a part of the weekly race program. This includes the WISSOTA sanctioned Midwest Modifieds and Street Stock, Micro Sprint 600’s, along with Pure Stock.
“Once again this year we are going to have special nights for the fans. This includes Harry’s Fireworks night on July 1st, and Junior Fan Autograph Night on August 5th,” concluded Eagle River Speedway Promoter, Kevin Dawson.
