Jim Falls, Wisconsin (August 30, 2015) Lisa Leu & Krug Towing along with WAXX 104.5 featured the 14th Annual Lonnie Leu Memorial at the Eagle Valley Speedway on Sunday, August 30, 2015. The EVS Hornets, EVS Pure Stocks, and the WISSOTA Poly Dome Dirt Track Series sanctioned Street Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Super Stocks, and Modifieds were all in action. Feature winners included Mike Anderson, Tommy Richards, Nick Koehler, Danny Richards, Mike Knopps, and William Voeltz.

The Modified heat was won by Mike Anderson as he and Nick Koehler sat on the front row of the feature. Anderson immediately took the lead on the green as Matt Leer raced to second. The racers got in line and all ran the high side with Anderson holding a solid lead. Just past the halfway point of the event, third place running Dave Baxter drew the only caution in a turn three mishap. Anderson led to the restart but Leer got a good run to the cushion in turns one and two as he moved to the point on the backstretch. Anderson dove below Leer at the opposite end of the track and regained the lead. The two featured side by side racing for about three laps when Anderson, who was the leader at the line each time, edged to the point. Anderson and Leer checked out on the remainder of the field as Leer settled for second and Anderson completed a sweep of the night’s action. Behind the leaders, Nick Koehler and Jay Richardson waged an equally impressive battle for the third position, which was taken by Koehler. Scott Miller rounded out the top five.
Tommy Richards and Curt Myers were the heat winners in the Super Stocks as Dave Shackleton and Mike Anderson lead the feature to green. It was Anderson who moved to the point but soon a spinning Terry Kroening drew a caution. Again, Anderson led but Tommy Richards flexed his muscles and passed for first. Anderson wasn’t willing to go away and he used the ultra-high groove to regain the point. A spinning Joel Peterson collected Tony Falkner and the caution light came on again. With Anderson, Richards, and Curt Myers lining up in the top three with their collective 65 feature wins in 2015, it was evident the cream had risen to the top. On the restart, Myers drove low under Anderson to take the position. They raced one, two, three, but entering into lapped traffic, the leader contacted Keith Corcillius in turn one, sending the lapper around and drawing the caution. On the restart, Myers continued to lead as Richards wrestled second position away. Myers suddenly slowed with a flat tire and was forced to retire and the caution reset the final run to the checkers. Richards controlled the restart and on to the win as Anderson finished second. Jeff Brauer had a fine run to third ahead of Dan Nissalke. Fifth place was claimed by 14th starting Darrel Hazelton.
The Midwest Modified heats were won by the youngster Jason Richardson, Michael Truscott, and Shane Halopka. Daniel Tautges and Collin Hazelton redrew the front row but it was fourth starting Nick Koehler who drove to the lead in lap one. An early caution reset the field and set the tone for the race which was marred by the flashing yellow light. The second caution saw Tautges sent to the rear of the field. On the restart, Halopka made contact with Grant Southworth coming to the green as Halopka was sent sliding threw the infield and to the back of the field. Again, on the restart, Chris Johnson hit the front stretch wall and left debris scattered down the front chute. The field was able to resume to green flag racing as Koehler stretched his lead over Truscott who had overtaken Southworth for second. The last caution flag flew as Tautges spun and collected Mitchell Booth, Brad Seavers, and Eric Klemetson. On the restart, Koehler returned to his Sunday drive in the ultra-high line as he drove on to an impressive win. It was Truscott claiming the runner up position over Southworth and Seavers finished fourth over Antonio Pintaro.
The Street Stocks heats were won by Travis Hazelton and Cody Kummer. The front row of the feature saw Danny Richards and Bill Skoug lead them to green. It was Richards quickly moving into the lead and onto the feature win but not without a great amount of action happening behind him. The first of three yellows flew early for Bill Skoug and under caution, Ron Hanestad was forced to the work area with a flat tire. Hanestad returned to the track but retired before the green flew again as there was mechanical damage too. Richards resumed the lead on the restart but the yellow flew again for Skoug. This time Cody Kummer was forced to the work area with a flat tire and he returned at the rear of the field for the restart. Again, Richards drove to a comfortable lead as Hazelton and Sam Fankhauser drove side by side for second. Fankhauser overtook second and the caution flew for the last time as Nate Hauge got a flat tire. Richards resumed to his lead and stretched it out as Fankhauser and Hazelton returned to the battle for second and Kummer closed from the rear to join them. With Richards having the race in control, he drove to the checkers but a three wide fight for position behind him saw heavy contact between Hazelton and Mike Knudtson. Fankhauser drove home in second as Kummer, Adam Soltis, and Knudtson were scored in the top five.
The Pure Stock heat was won by George Richards as Dustin Holub sat on the pole with Mike Knopps starting to his outside. Knopps made little doubt of the event as he drove to the lead at the start and was never challenged for the victory. The race was slowed once by a spinning Lucas Kallenbach but Knopps held strong. George Richards raced to second as Dustin Holub finished third. Nicholas Hazelton and Cody Tisdale closed out the top five.
The Hornet heats were won by William Voeltz and Dan Prissel as Voeltz went on to sweep the nights action. It was Dean Butler on the pole flanked by Voeltz who drove to a comfortable lead and was never challenged until there was one lap remaining in the event. It was Chad Prissel who started sixth and moved to second and began to track down the leader. Coming to the white flag, Prissel drove under the leader. Voeltz fought back and regained control, but again, Prissel drove hard on the bottom in turns three and four and pulled even as the two drag raced to the checkers with Voeltz winning narrowly. Dan Prissel moved from seventh to third as Dean Butler and Jason Bauer finished fourth and fifth.
Correcting a previous article, it is noted Chad Prissel was the 2015 track points champion in the Hornets, not Darrel Komro as errantly reported. Sorry for the mistake Chad!
The Eagle Valley Speedway will return to action on Sunday, September 07 and Monday, Labor Day, September 07 as River Country Coop sponsors the Jim Town Showdown Labor Day Special.
