USMTS comes to Town with Midwest Modifieds and Super Stocks

Menomonie, Wisconsin (August 13, 2015) the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) Modifieds invaded Menomonie along with the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds and WISSOTA Super Stocks who were also on the card! Feature winners included Rodney Sanders in the USMTS Modifieds, Jason Forehand, and Nick Koehler.
The Johnson Motors Super Stocks had three heats. In the first heat, Jesse Redetzke ran out front the entire distance won over Steve Thomas and AJ Hoff. In the second heat Mike Anderson took the lead early and led until the last lap when he was overtaken by Curt Myers as Eric Olson settled for third. In the final heat, Jason Forehand used his pole starting position to dominate, winning over Bart Steffen and Dan Nissalke.

The feature saw Forehand and Redetzke on the front row as the two battled side by side until Forehand was able to secure the point. A spinning Luke Schultz reset the field, but Forehand was up to the task as he again motored out front. Fifth starting Curt Myers had found third and he and Redetzke tried to catch the leader as eighth starting Mike Anderson passed into fourth but was a significant distance behand the lead trio. As laps clicked off, Forehand never relinquished his lead. Myers overtook Redetzke for second as the two remained close to the leader. Anderson closed to near Redetzke, but ran out of laps to challenge the lead group. Eric Olson was the fifth place finisher.
The Southworth Chevrolet Midwest Modifieds had two heats with Grant Southworth winning the first over Shane Halopka and Michael Truscott. The second heat saw its complexion change on the first lap as Nick Koehler, Travis Anderson, and Dave Shackelton were involved in a three care melee in turn two. Koehler lost control gathering the other two drivers and he was the only car to be able to continue as the other two received significant damage. Koehler kept his position due to track officials blaming the racing surface for the incident. It was the only break he needed as he dominated the heat. Karl Kolek and Ben Schultz finished in the top three.
Koehler redrew the pole for the feature as Cody Bruggeman flanked him on the outside and Koehler immediately drove to the lead. A spinning Eric Klemetson reset the field and on the restart Shane Halopka overtook Southworth for second. They settled in and ran in a line toward the checkered flag as Koehler led to group over Halopka, Southworth, Truscott and Kolek. Bruggeman brought out the final caution as he broke down and couldn’t clear the racing surface. The restart saw no changes to the end of the race as the top five were followed to the line by Travis Anderson as he moved from last on the grid to sixth.
The USMTS offered competitors from Wisconsin, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, and Texas as the 40 lap feature was won by Happy, Texas’ Rodney Sanders over Watts, Oklahoma’s Jason Hughes. The results are available on their website as is an article on the racing action.
Drivers who have raced at the Red Cedar Speedway on a more regular basis in the past or currently who were in attendance with USMTS Modifieds included Tony Bahr, Erick Pember, Rich Loftus, Craig Thatcher, Brent Larson, Jason Miller, Cory Casper, Jay Richards, and Chris Ortel. In addition, Jesse Glenz, Cory Mahder, Ashley Anderson, Jake Hartung, and Mike Anderson drove their WISSOTA legal cars against the bigger motored brethren. Glenz and Mahder made the feature through passing points and A. Anderson, Hartung, and M. Anderson raced their way in via the B-features, one of which was won by Ashley. Hartung raced from 17th to fourth, A. Anderson from 14th to sixth, M. Anderson from 21st to seventh. Glenz faded from sixth to 12th, and Mahder, who ran in the top three after starting fourth was eliminated by a one car crash just past the halfway point, relegating him to 18th.
