Seymour August 16- A hazy sky and a nice breeze helped turn an uncomfortable day into a really nice night for racing Sunday at the Seymour Speedway.
Beavers Hut of Freedom sponsored the full program that produced 4 repeat and one 1st time feature winners.
The Turbo Blue Street Stocks were up first and in a rare occurance here, had a series of 6 cautions over the first 7 laps without a full moon in sight. George Tabalske was leader of the pack through the first 6 laps and Allan Schlueter was able to work into the top spot the lap before the final restart on lap 7. Schlueter was followed by Ryan Blank, Jeff Jungwirth, Matt Werner , Lexii Ashcraft and Patty Winkler for a good 9 lap run. Schlueter and Blank ran side by side for 4 laps before Blank powered into the lead on the outside out of turn 4 and opened a slight lead. As the pack came in to finish lap 17, Blanks car suddenly erupted in a cloud of smoke and he tried to keep control with the entire field bearing down out of the turn. Schlueter had nowhere to go and collected Blanks disabled cat near the left rear wheel and rode up the side of the car and the two cars slid off the track entering turn one, bringing out the final caution and forcing a time limit green white checker finish. Fortunatly there where no injuries and Schlueter was put back in front to take the final green. Jungwirth, Warner, Ashcraft, Winkler and Jeff Dorschner were lined up behind. Schlueter maintained the lead to the checkers for his 4th feature win of the season, and moved back into the point lead by 4 points over Ashcraft. Jungwirth edged Warner for the runner up spot with Winkler knocking Ashcraft out of the top four on the final lap. Dorschner rounded out the top six.
Jamie Schmidt slipped into the lead of the Budweiser IMCA Modified feature on the opening lap and was challenged on the outside by Chad Bartel right away. Bartel took the lead away just as the first of 2 cautions on lap 4 slowed the pace. Schmidt was still the leader for the restart only to have another caution for a spin on the front chute. The restart was the final one as the field ran the final 16 laps non stop.
Schmidt led the way for 2 more circuits until Bartel again charged into the lead and was able to run away from the field for the rest of the way to collect his first feature win of the year at Seymour. Jay Matthias was the runner up with Benji LaCrosse taking third. Eric Arneson slipped by Konnor Wilinski on the final lap for fourth. Eric Scribner rounded out the top six.
Bill Kelsey led the opening round of the Coors Light IMCA Stock Car main event with Kyle Frederick taking the outside line and moved into the top spot on lap 3. Once in front, Frederick opened a lead, leaving a very tight race for the runner up spot. Devin Snellenberger, Rod Snellenberger, Joe Schwister and Kelsey were bunched up behind. Frederick was running alone at the front until the car suddenly blew on the front straight with the car coming to rest high in turn 1, ending his run for the win. Devin Inherited the lead with dad, Rod, next. Current point leader, Travis Van Straten, ad trouble in the heat race and started the main at the rear. The caution found him already up to fourth for the restart. Under green for the final 9 laps, Van Straten was able to work through the father son combo and settled into the lead on lap 15. Once in front, the outcome was certain, with Van Straten collecting his 7th feature win of the year. Rod was able to edge Devin for the runner up spot to stay 22 points behind Van Straten with 3 point nights remaining. Schwister took his best finish of the season in fourth with Chas Van Ooyen taking fifth and Mike Schmidt rounding out the top six.
Andrew Meyerhofer took the opening lap lead in the O’Reilly Auto Parts IMCA Sport Mod main with Tailar Ness taking charge on lap 2. Meyerhofer drifted wide out of turn 2 on lap 4 and slammed the retaining wall at the track exit, causing the lone caution of the race. Ness led the way for 2 more laps before Bruce Beland inched ahead on lap 7. One the following lap, Jeremy Cota moved inside, and rand side by side with Beland for a couple laps before securing the top spot for good, running to his 6th feature win of the season. Beland took the runner up finish a few lengths behind Cota. Scott Besaw took third and point leader, Lucas Lamberies settled for fourth. Travis Arenz and Kevin Bethke rounded out the top six. Lamberies entered the night 12 marks ahead of Cota, the defending division champion, and still holds a slimmer 9 point margin after the finish.
The 4 Cylinder night cap saw Joe Minks take charge of the race on the opening lap and lead the entire distance, but not without a lot of company the entire way. Tyler Hungerford, Carl King, Kasey Gross and Brandon Goeser were tight behind. Hungerford and King tried several times to shake Minks but the challenged was unrewarded and Minks held onto the lead to the finish to collect his first career feature trophy. King edged Hungerford for the runner up spot with Gross taking fourth. Dalton Nelson and Goeser rounded out the top six.
N.E.W. DIRT would like to THANK everyone for attending tonights racing program.
