PDTR Fan Appreciation Night Winners were Rivest, Lee, McMullen and McGrath

Hot and humid weather welcomed spectators for fan appreciation night at PDTR. Drivers were given a very fast and tacky track for the evening. New for the next few weeks PDTR is trying a Grand Prix style qualifying system to determine heat race line ups, this week the Sprint cars were up.

Norb Rivest and Scott Schlafke lead the Cellcom Outlaw Compacts to the green flag. Norb Rivest lead laps one and two while grandson Brody was maneuvering through traffic. Lap three Brody Rivest was in control and not slowing down. By lap 7 Brody had a front stretch lead over Norb Rivest. Norb Rivest and Scott Schlafke made contact while battling for third place resulting in our first and only caution. After the restart Brody Rivest created a front stretch lead over Lonny Schlafke. Scott Schlafke worked his way through traffic and battled with Chris Maas for third. Donnie Welch attempted to take over fourth. Rivest (Sheboygan) was up to a half track lead over Lonny Schlafke (Sheboygan) as the checker flag waved. Third went to Scott Schlafke (Cleveland) followed by Chris Maas (Oakfield) and Donnie Welch (Saukville). Hard charger passing 6 was Brody Rivest (Sheboygan).

Feldmann Sales and Service Grand Nationals were next with Roger Lee and Matt Loehr setting the pace. Roger Lee jumped out to an early lead. Matt Yancey, Brad Lubach, Brad Weiss and Michael Gilson were four wide at the back of the pack. All drivers spread out nicely; Justin Erickson attempted to pass Donny Kulow for eighth while ninth was contended by Richard Hed and Wil Sorce with a flat tire. Richard Hed lost the battle with popping noises resulting in him pulling off on lap 9. Roger Lee gained on lapped traffic by lap 10. Jeff Lammers attempted to pass Don Sorce Jr. for third. Brad Weiss left the track to the attention of his crew. Roger Lee had a backstretch lead over Don Sorce Jr. in the final laps. Matt Yancey also retired to the pits. Don Sorce Jr. slowly gained on Roger Lee. Double checkers flew in this caution free race for Roger Lee (Wind Lake) with a new track record of 6 minutes and 35 seconds over Don Sorce Jr. (West Allis) followed by Matt Loehr (Mt. Calvary), Jeff Lammers (Plymouth) and Tyler Kulow (New Holstein) rounding out the top five. Brad Lubach (Kiel) was hard charger passing 6 in Kevin Lubach’s car.

Brandon McMullen and Kurt Davis lead the Aldag Honald Mechanical Sprints to the green flag. Brandon McMullen pulled out to an early lead over Kurt Davis. A rough start for a few drivers in turn one, but they all stayed rolling. Randy Walters got tangled up and traveled through the infield. Brandon McMullen was up on lapped traffic by lap 4. Garrett Timothy scraped the wall and Tom Kruetz pulled his car into the infield with mechanical issues. Kevin Karnitz and Tim Haddy competed for thirteenth while Randy Sippel got a little squirrely in turn two. Scotty Thiel driving Drew Ludwigs car maneuvered through traffic and caught Jim Melis causing him to flip on the front stretch bringing out our first red flag. Brandon McMullen was out front for the restart with Kurt Davis behind. They came up on lapped traffic on lap 12. Donny Goeden was up to fifth after starting eleventh. Anthony Knierim and Dannon Tessmer tangled for another caution. Brandon McMullen probably didn’t want another restart with Donny Goeden so close behind. Right after the green flag waved for the restart Randy Walter hit the turn 1 and 2 wall flipping hard landing upside down. Walters throttle stuck as he was on the high side to pass cars on the restart. Kurt Davis has competition as Paul Pokorski attempted to pass. Brandon McMullen started to walk away with a front stretch lead over Kurt Davis. Mitchell Yurmanovich attempted to pass Tim Haddy for eighth. Haddy pulled into the pits as the yellow flew for a final time for Douglas Pietz coming to a rest on the racing surface. Donny Goeden attempted to pass Paul Pokorski for fourth on the final restart. Brandon McMullen (Plymouth) crossed the checkers first followed by Kurt Davis (West Allis), Paul Pokorski (West Bend), Donny Goeden (Kewaskum) and Randy Sippel (Elkhart Lake). Hard chargers were Paul Pokorski (West Bend), Donny Goeden (Kewaskum) and Douglas Pietz (Milwaukee) each passing 7. Donny Goeden was the evening’s fast qualifier.

Johnsonville Sausage Late Models rolled trackside last with Tim Buhler and Mitch McGrath on the front row. Mitch McGrath pulled out to an early lead while other drivers bottled up behind. Aaron Holiday brought out the first caution, on the restart Tony Peterson got into the back of Jim Schmidt for a second caution. Jim Schmidt drew the third quick caution as he spun on the third attempt of the restart. Jim Letizia battled Kyle Odekirk for fourth. Mitch McGrath had over a front stretch lead on Rick Scheffler with Tim Buhler looking in. Mitch McGrath was upon lapped traffic on lap 9. Tim Buhler passed Rick Scheffler for second. Two more quick cautions for Charlie Schmidt and Chris Carlson tangling; next Rick Scheffler and Kyle Odekirk collided. Brad Mueller manages to sneak into second on the final restart, while Jim Schmidt attempted to pass Tim Buhler on the high side continually lap after lap. Mitch McGrath gained a front stretch lead over Brad Mueller as the laps wound down. Chris Carlson and Kyle Odekirk both retired to the pits on lap 18. Taylor Scheffler was trailing Tim Buhler with Turk Letizia looking in. Checkers flew for Mitch McGrath (Waukesha) followed by Brad Mueller (Random Lake), Tim Buhler (Glenbeulah), Jim Schmidt (Cleveland) and Jim Letizia (Milwaukee). Brad Mueller (Random Lake) and Jim Schmidt (Cleveland) were hard chargers each passing 7.
