(Sturgeon Bay, WI) August 9, 2015 Results- Tony Bouche made a last lap, last corner pass on Jamie Suchocki to steal the win in the IMCA Stock Cars at Thunderhill Raceway. Other feature winners were Todd Dart (IMCA Modified), Vince Engebregtsen (IMCA Sport Mod), Ford Malvitz (IMCA Hobby Stock), Billy LeMieux (Street Stock) and Tory Peterson (Thunder Truck). Adam Sternard took home the win and $500 in the Trailer Race of Destruction.

Action was red flagged twice on the night. The first was for a vicious wreck in the Thunder Trucks as Nick LeMieux lost the handle out of turn 4 during his heat race. In his attempt to save it, he went head on at full speed into a blunt edge of the wall entering turn one, which destroyed his truck. Some how LeMieux emerged from the heap of twisted metal under his own power and looked to be just shaken up. The second was for Jimmy Anderson as his car caught fire and was extinguished.

David Reinhardt paced the opening laps of the IMCA Stock Car headliner until Tom Brumlic made his way to the top spot on lap three. Several cautions early kept the field bunched tightly. Jamie Suchocki,, Tony Bouche and Billy LeMieux kept the pressure on Brumlic. Suchocki went to the top groove and found the traction he needed, racing by for the lead on lap eight. Bouche battled by Brumlic to take the runner up spot.

LeMieux’s bid for another sweep came to an end as his car broke something in the steering which drew a caution. A three lap dash to the checker set the stage, Suchocki committed himself to the high groove allowing Bouche to dive low. Suchocki led by a nose as the white flew. The duo raced clean but hard through the final corner, with the checkers waving they rushed past the finish line in almost a dead heat. When the dust settled Bouche was awarded the win, his second of the season which brings him within 9 points of the championship leader. Brumlic had a solid night with third, point leader Dave Bouche was fourth and Scott Reinhardt rounded out the top five.

New comer Bill Edler looked like the man to beat early during the IMCA Sport Mod main as he built up a big lead early over rookie Vince Engebregtsen and Josh Lambert. Jarred VanLaanen had his title chances get a little harder as he hit an infield tire, sending his car spinning down the backstretch on lap six. Which drew a caution. VanLaanen returned off of pit lane several laps down.

What once looked like a certain victory for Edler quickly evaporated as his open wheel racer became ill handling, falling into the clutches of a hard charging Engebregtsen. Edler surrendered the lead to Engebregtsen and second to Lambert with four laps remaining. Lambert charged inside the leader coming to the checker only to fall a half car short. Engebregtsen scored a clean sweep on the night with his second feature win of the year. Edler brought him third followed by title contenders Cody Rass and Tom Stark.

Justin Hartel held the lead of the IMCA Hobby Stock feature until last weeks winner Travis LuMaye raced by on lap four. Ford Malvitz quickly worked to the runner up spot from row four and began applying pressure to LuMaye’s back bumper. With eight laps remaining Malvitz muscled his way inside LuMaye. Smoke rolled and sparks flew, Malvitz emerged the leader as LuMaye headed to pit lane with a flat tire. Malvitz never looked back, cruising all the way to victory lane for the second time this season. Dave Schmidt bested Marcus Moede late to place second. Luxemburg Speedway point leader Dan Van Pay was third in a rare visit, while Hartel held on to place fifth.

Fresh off a thrilling heat win “Felix” Todd Dart wasted no time getting to the lead of the IMCA Modified feature, racing by Tyler DeBouche on lap three. Point leader Greg Gretz did the same a few laps later, securing the runner up spot. Dart set sail and pulled away for a dominating win, adding to his all time feature win total at the Hill. After a second place finish Gretz has the Modified championship firmly in his grasp. DeBouche was third and former winged sprint champ Randy Theys was fourth.

Billy LeMieux picked up where he left off the last two weeks in the Street Stocks, racing by Jimmy Anderson for the lead on lap six. LeMieux checked out but a red flag stopped the field as Anderson’s race car went up in flames. The quick work of the safety crew got the fire out fast but Anderson was done for the night. On the restart LeMieux got a great jump and dominated the remainder of the event. Phil Faustini took second and was able to chop his deficit in the title chase down to just 9 points. Jeremy DuBois rallied after wrecking in a qualifying race to place third. Point leader James Dahlstrom was fourth and Dennis Weidner completed the top five.

Tory Peterson tasted victory for the first time, by winning a hard contested battle with Nathan Delsart in the Thunder Truck feature. Peterson scored a clean sweep on the night. Peterson is Thunderhill’s very own video person. All the videos can be found on his Facebook and YouTube pages under Pain Racing.

We head into the next Sunday, August 16 with only three point nights remaining. Racing is scheduled to start at 5:30 pm and will be brought to you by Dairy Queen. At intermission there will be Big Wheel and Power Wheel Races.
