Kids’ Bike Races to Headline ABC Raceway Show on Saturday
Ashland, WI — As one of the most popular nights of the regular-season schedule, it’s always been fun to watch the younger fans pedal around the ABC Raceway’s red-clay oval.
Chicago Iron & Supply of Ashland will present Kids’ Bike Races at the award-winning three-eighths-mile speedplant just south of Ashland on Saturday night. Youngsters in a variety of age groups from 2 to teens will be invited out to compete on the same race track as their heroes do for fun and prizes. And this year the track has added an adult division.
Saturday’s program will include the track’s five weekly divisions – WISSOTA Modifieds, Super Stocks and Midwest Modifieds, as well as its own Six-Cylinders and Pure Stocks – for heat-race and feature action as the regular season enters its final month.
Also part of Saturday’s program will be a special tribute to Brian Koch by Northern Wisconsin Fence of Phillips. Koch, a popular race engine builder from the Phillips area who put together strong, reliable powerplants for a good number of racers in northern Wisconsin, passed away prior to the opening of the 2015 stock car racing season.
As part of the tribute, Northern Wisconsin Fence has collaborated with several other businesses and drivers from the area to put together a nice increase to the overall purse for the racers, as well as a few pleasant surprises for fans in attendance.
With just five race nights remaining in the season, the points battles in each division will become more heated. In the Modifieds Ashland’s Steve Stuart holds a mere four-point lead on Al Uotinen of Superior, while in the Super Stocks Superior’s Scott Lawrence has Jeff Klopstein of Tomahawk just three points back.
Paul Suzik of Ironwood, MI, leads an incredible battle in the Mid-Mods, where the top five are within a six-point spread, and in the Pure Stocks leader Randy Graham of Trego has his two closest challengers within three points of him.
The Six-Cylinder championship chase has Dale Coddington of Hayward ahead of Ashland’s Tiffany Hudack by just four points.
Hot laps begin at 6:15 pm, followed by first heat race of the night at 7. Adult tickets are just $10, and kids ages 12 and under are admitted free with a paid adult admission. “Z-93 Race Night” will air Saturday on WBSZ, 93.3 FM, as well as stream online at www.wbszfm.com, from 4:30-6 pm with up-to-date track news and weather information.
The ABC Raceway is located 3-1/2 miles south of Ashland on State Highway 13 and one mile west on Butterworth Road. For raceday information call (715) 682-4990.
