(Sturgeon Bay, WI)- Billy Lemieux was a star studded Man in Door County over the weekend. Not only did he rank in 135th place out of 160 players at the M.A.C Softball tournament; He decided to double up on Feature wins at Thunderhill Raceway on Sunday night. Lemieux earned wins in both the IMCA Stockcar Feature and Street Stock Feature.
Other winners included: Tyler Hackett(IMCA Modifieds) Jarred VanLaanen(IMCA Sportmods) Dave Schmidt(IMCA Hobby Stocks) and Nathan Delsart(Thunder Trucks)
David Reinhardt opened up as the King of Kings in the IMCA Stockcar division. He led the opening lap before giving way to Kevin Luedtke. Jamie Suchocki has been on a mission as of late and it showed early. Suchocki flew to the front after tracking down Luedtke. A lone caution would fly on lap 11 allowing Billy Lemieux to come play. Lemieux rode around Suchocki on top and cruised over the final laps. Lemieux picked up his first win of the season. Lemieux grabbed the clean sweep after also winning his heat race. Dylan Heilman grabbed the second spot after a battle with Suchocki. Tom Brumlic finished fourth with Tony Bouche fifth.
There was one lap that said everything in the Street Stock Feature event. On lap one Billy Lemieux dipped, dived and dodged his way from fourth to first. That proved to be the race winning move as Lemieux just had to wait out a short yellow on lap two. Lemieux resumed the race as the leader and never looked back on his way to his fourth win. James Dahlstrom stayed within striking distance before fading in second. James Anderson finished third. Clint Evans made a trip to the hill a successful one with a fourth place finish ahead of Phil Faustini.
The IMCA Modified Feature saw just two leaders. The first was point leader Greg Gretz at the drop of the green flag. A yellow on lap two let everyone take one final breath. Tyler Hackett timed out the restart perfectly and shot around Gretz and into the number one spot. Todd Dart came into second on lap six but could never mount a charge. The top two finishers went to Algoma with Hackett winning his sixth checkered flag over Dart. Tony Wedelstadt never got the caution he needed to challenge the leaders and settled for third after winning a great battle over Eric Scribner and Gretz.
Vince Engebregtsen looked to be on cruise control in the IMCA Sportmod Feature. Engebregtsen checked out from the field and let the battle be for second. Tom Stark was the man running second when Jarred VanLaanen showed everyone he was the fastest on the speedway on this night. VanLaanen got to second and started reeling in the leader. With two laps remaining, Engebregtsen had the mechanical woe bug bite him. VanLaanen was able to charge underneath the leader. As the two drove into turn one, Engebregtsen got into the leader causing a caution. VanLaanen was given his spot back and was up to the challenge. VanLaanen picked up the win over Cody Rass who mounted a run to second. Stark wound up third with Jacob Zellner and Bernard Reinhardt rounding out the top five.
17 year old Jeff Krauel led the opening lap of the IMCA Hobby Stock Main Event. A caution on lap two allowed Amber Weidner to move into the top spot on the restart. Weidner would lead until Dave Schmidt tracked her down on lap eight. Schmidt would take his racer to the top of the speedway and make the race winning pass on lap nine. Schmidt took home his fifth win of the season over point leader Marcus Moede. Weidner finished third with Dean Anhalt fourth. Krauel finished fifth in his third night in the car.
Nathan Delsart kept his winning percentage at 100 in the Thunder Truck division. He took the win over both Tory Peterson and Nick Lemieux.
This Wednesday July 29th, Thunderhill Raceway will be in action to open up the Door County Fair. Racing gets underway at 6:30 p.m with the great Tom Wagner grabbing the mic.
