Richardson Tames the Valley
on July 27, 2015 at 6:35 amJim Falls, Wisconsin (July 26, 2015) the Eagle Valley Speedway was in action as JP Mechanical sponsored the EVS Hornets, EVS Pure Stocks, and the WISSOTA Poly Dome Dirt Track Series sanctioned Street Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Super Stocks, and Modifieds. Feature winners included Jay Richardson, Curt Myers, Shane Halopka, Danny Richards, George Richards, and Kasey Gross.
The Modified heat as won by Steve Hallquist as Jay Richardson and Hallquist held the front row of the feature. It was Richardson who won the race to the high line and the lead. Mike Anderson raced to second and closed on Richardson multiple times but Richardson didn’t falter on his way to the checkers. Anderson put distance on third finishing Hallquist who distanced himself from Pat Hoffmann. Matt Leer went pit side as the field was taking the initial green.
Tommy Richards and Curt Myers were the heat winners in the Super Stocks as it appeared Richards would sweep, but it was Myers who pulled out the broom. The feature began with Rick Peterson and Tony Falkner on the front row as Mark Stender came from the second row to lead early. Falkner held tough and battled for the point but Richards moved to second and then the lead prior to an early yellow flag for a pair of spinning cars. Richards led on the restart as Meyers and Stender waged war for second. The caution was shown for another spin and under yellow, Richards’ car began to smoke and then roll to a halt. He was pushed from the raceway, ending his fine run in the lead. Stender inherited the lead as Myers and Mike Anderson lined up behind him. A row further back, Falkner and Curt Hazelton were having terrific runs in the top five.
On the restart, the front three cars raced hard for the lead as Myers came out on top and Stender took second. The caution was shown when Rick Peterson broke down and the restart saw no changes. Myers distanced himself from a battle for second controlled by Stender. As the leader was coming to the white flag, Hazelton spun drawing the caution. He regained his position for the restart and as the leaders entered turn one, Falkner veered out of line and made extremely hard contact with the turn two wall. The red flag was shown as a medical crew attended to the driver. It appeared he was not seriously injured and the race was finished under a green, white, checkered restart. It was Myers controlling the pace and driving to the win as Anderson took advantage and stole second from Stender. Hazelton completed an excellent run to fourth and Ralph Stark rounded out the top five.
The Midwest Modifieds were lead to green in the feature by Brad Seavers and Shane Halopka as Halopka drove to the early lead and on to his third feature win of the weekend. Initially Halopka took the point and Mike Truscott settled into second. An early caution reset the field, but little changed as Halopka continued to lead over Truscott as Jake Smith raced to third. Shortly after the halfway point, a spinning Ross Fuhrman grouped everyone together again. It was Halopka driving to the win as Truscott began to show promise on the low side in the waning laps and closed on the leader but finished in second. Smith beat Seavers as Nick Koehler rounded out the top five.
The Street Stocks heat and feature were won by Danny Richards as he notched a clean sweep. Travis Hazelton and Adam Soltis led the feature to green with Soltis taking control. Behind him cars first went three wide, then four wide for the second position as Tyler Wahlstrom, Hazelton, Jay Kesan, and Richards battled intensely. It was Richards coming out of the group on the high side for the position and he set out to chase down Soltis. At the halfway point, Richards drove to the front, but a spinning Dalton Hazelton reset the field and gave Soltis back his position. The yellow flew again on the restart as Kesan was spun by Travis Hazelton. When racing resumed, Soltis held the lead for two more laps, but Richards would not be denied. Richards drove to the front as Soltis hung tight and tried to battle back. With a few laps remaining, Richards found his legs and stretched the lead as Nate Hauge caught Soltis and the two began to swap positions. It was Hauge at the line over Soltis as Kesan and Tyler Wahlstrom rounded out the top five.
The Pure Stock heats were won by Dustin Holub and George Richards as Richards swept the night yet again winning the feature and adding to his dominance of the class at Eagle Valley in 2015. Cody Stead sat on the pole and was flanked by Lucas Kallenbach as Kallenbach drove to the early feature lead. Eighth starting Richards carved through traffic using the middle groove essentially and took over second position. He took the lead shortly thereafter, but a multicar spin in turn three gave Kallenbach his lead back. Once the race restarted, it took less than a lap for Richards to flex his muscle and drive back to the lead. Mike Knopps overtook second as Kallenbach settled into third. Coming to the white flag, Duke Leu spun and gave everyone one last shot to dethrone Richards during a green, white, checkered finish but he was simply too tough. Knopps drove to second, followed by Kallenbach, Pat Smith and Cody Tisdale who had a fine run in fifth.
The Hornet heats were won by Kasey Gross and Brent Hauge as Gross went on to sweep the nights action. It was Chuck Wald on the pole as Jake Hallerman started the feature to his outside but Wald controlled the early going. On lap three, Austin Berger took the point on the high side, but it was short lived as one lap later, eighth starting Kasey Gross found the lead and never looked back. Gross drove to a substantial lead over Berger, who himself put distance on third running Dan Prissel. Komro closed on Prissel late in the event to challenge for the spot but settled for fourth as tenth starting Shane Lindseth rounded out the top five.
The Eagle Valley Speedway will return to action on Sunday, August 02, 2015, as Gordy’s Market sponsor Kids Night with all six classes of cars with the EVS Hornets, EVS Pure Stocks, and the WISSOTA Poly Dome Dirt Track Series sanctioned Street Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Super Stocks, and Modifieds. Once again, Oium Blacktop and Kelly Oium Well Drilling and Pump Service will give away a bicycle to one lucky boy and girl!
