Menomonie, Wisconsin (July 24, 2015) the Red Cedar Speedway was in action on Friday, July 24, 2015, as Tractor Central presented the WISSOTA Poly Dome Dirt Track Series sanctioned Street Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Super Stocks, Modifieds, and Late Models. Feature winners included Mike Prochnow, Matt Leer, Mike Anderson, Shane Halopka, and Hunter VanGilder.
The T.L. Sinz Plumbing Late Model heat was won by AJ Diemel as Mike Goodremote and Chad Mahder held the front row of the feature. Goodremote took the early lead as Mike Prochnow overtook second position and Rick Hanestad drove to third. Prochnow took the lead near the halfway point, but Goodremote fought back to regain the position. As they entered into lap traffic, Prochnow had a better line and moved back out front for good. Goodremote and a lap car made contact, causing him to lose momentum and fall back slightly and soon thereafter, Hanestad was able to close and take over second position. The yellow flag flew resetting the field, but Prochnow controlled the restart and drove home to the feature victory. Hanestad followed him to the checkers in second as Goodremote, Mahder, and Diemel rounded out the top five.
The Tim’s Automotive Modified heats were won by Jake Hartung and Matt Leer as Leer went on to a sweep for the evening. It was Mark Hanson on the pole as Leer used his outside front row start to blast the high side and drive to victory lane, leading every lap of the event. The lone yellow flag of the race flew as Jesse Glenz and Jake Hartung spun early with Glenz begrudgingly going to the rear for the restart. Leer went right back to work in the lead as Hanson settled into second. Leer stretched his lead as Kevin Adams was able to race to second and run away from third position. As the race settled in, Jay Richardson ran on his own in third as Hartung, Mike Anderson, Hanson, and Ashley Anderson raced hard for fourth. Hartung broke free from the group and closed to challenge Richardson as the two Andersons separated to battle for fifth. As the race wore on, Adams cut into Leer’s huge lead as he closed to within near striking distance but ran out of laps. Richardson claimed third over Hartung, and Mike Anderson won the fight for fifth.
Gunnar Watkins won the Johnson Motors Super Stock heat as he sat outside of Rick Hallquist on the front row of the feature. Watkins lead early as Mike Anderson and Jason Forehand moved to second and third respectively. Anderson used the high line to overtake the lead and the yellow flew shortly thereafter as Tony Falkner stalled in turn three. On the restart, Anderson continued on the point as Forehand gave him his only pressure of the race. The two raced hard and clean for the lead but Anderson gained control and drove away. Forehand drove away from third place Jesse Redetzke but began to fade and eventually drop out. Anderson drove to a half lap lead at the checkers as Redetzke finished second. It was Steve Thomas finishing third over Bart Steffen and Hallquist.
The Southworth Chevrolet Midwest Modified heat winners were Shane Halopka and Karl Kolek as Halopka went on to sweep the nights action in the feature. It was Jake Hanson and Craig Elliot on the front row of the main event as Travis Anderson powered to the early lead from the outside of row two. On lap two, Anderson continued to lead, but Halopka had swiftly moved from eighth to second. One lap later, Halopka drove to the lead and never looked back as he dominated the event. By lap five, 13th starting Dave Shackleton has settled into fifth with an impressive run through the field in his own right. Halopka drove away from Anderson as Anderson likewise distanced himself from third finishing Jake Smith who was involved in a several lap three car race for position with fourth finishing Kolek and Shackleton who was scored in fifth at the line.
Conrad’s Auto Salvage Street Stock heats were won by Mike Knudtson and Cody Kummer as Kolby Kiehl and Knudtson held the front row of the feature. It was Knudtson who took the lead on lap one but the yellow flag flew early as Travis Hazelton spun. On the restart, Ashley Wahlstrom and Hazelton got together in the first turn, as the yellow flew again. Another restart attempt was aborted as Kiehl came to a stop on the track with mechanical woes. They tried again, and this time all went well as Knudtson drove to the lead followed by Hunter VanGilder. Soon, VanGilder drove to the point as Cody Kummer followed him into second. VanGilder continued to lead in the low groove as Kummer aggressively tried every move he knew to get past. He tried multiple times to root the leader out of the low line and power underneath to no avail. With two laps remaining, he moved to the middle groove but on the final lap, he made contact with VanGilder, sending VanGilder around. The race was ended under caution as VanGilder was given his spot back and awarded the win. Kummer was relegated to the last car on the lead lap and Knudtson was scored in second. Danny Richards finished third ahead of Ashley Wahlstrom and Noah Grinstead in fifth.
Red Cedar Speedway returns to racing action on Friday, July 31, 2015, as AirTek Sports present the WISSOTA Poly Dome Dirt Track Series sanctioned Street Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Super Stocks, and Modifieds, along with the Pure Stocks and Hornets. There will be no Late Models on the card.
