Oshkosh, July 24- There has been plenty of activity in Oshkosh lately with the EAA Fly In, but there was a lot of flying of a different sort at the Oshkosh SpeedZone Raceway with the Outlaw IRA Winged Sprint Cars flying around the 1/3 mile oval for their only appearance of 2015. Add on the Round 2 of the Automotive Supply Company IMCA Modified “King of the Ring”series, the IMCA Sport Mods and Total Power Sales IMCA Stock Cars, and it all added up to a BIG night of racing action before a great crowd Friday night.

The Automotive Supply Company IMCA Modifieds took the track first for their round 2 King of the Ring feature. 20 cars made the field with Brian Drexler grabbing the lead a the start followed by Mike Wedelstadt, Todd Dart, Brian Mullen, Matt Klenz, and Eddie Muenster. Wedelstadt was running the outside line and Drexler was hugging the inside over the first few laps with Wedelstadt finally taking the top spot on lap 5. A Caution for a spin on lap 6 bunched the field with Wedelstadt still in command. Dart was able to slip into the runner up spot after the restart and stayed right with the leader until a final caution for debris closed the field again.

Wedelstadt, Dart, Drexler, Mullen, T.J. Smith, Russ Reinwald and Tony Wedelstadt made the lead pack. For the next 5 laps the battle for the top spot was side by side with Wedelstadt running outside and Dart inside. They went back and forth several times swapping the lead through corners. Dart planned on making his move entering turn one, with the better bite down low. On lap 16, he was able to stay even with Wedelstadt through the corner and used the bite to pull into the lead entering turn three. He was able to hold off the challenge outside to take the lead for good and ran to his first feature win at the SpeedZone since September 7, 2013. Wedelstadt, winner of the first round King of the Ring race, took second and is the series point leader by 3 points over Dart. Drexler took third followed by Reinwald, Dan Roedl and T. J, Smith in the top six.

The final round of the series will take place on Friday August 28, part of the Corn Belt Clash, George Scheffler Memorial Late Model race.

The Total Power Sales IMCA Stock Car main event saw Travis Van Straten make his way to the front on the opening lap followed by Andrew Becks, Brian Ambrosius, Tom Brumlic, David Hoerning and Joe White.

Van Straten moved out to a lead over the field when a lone caution appeared on lap 9. This put Jerry Winkler, White, Becks, Hoerning, Dylan Heilmann and Ambrosius right behind. Under Green for the final time, Van Straten did what he has done all season, and that was pull away from the field and drove off to collect his second straight and 6th feature win overall this season. Winkler was able to close on the leader over the final laps, but secured the runner up finish a couple car lengths behind. White took third with Heilmann, Becks and Hoerning rounding out the top six.

Jason Ebert took the lead in the IMCA Sport Mod nightcap for the opening 2 laps before Brekken Kleinschmidt took over on lap 3. Colten Van Hierden was used the outside line and powered into the lead on lap 4, and continued to pull away from the field. Tom Schneider, Wyatt Block, Jeff Steenbergen, Ryan Besaw, Jon Schultz worked to the front and a lone caution flew on lap 11, erasing Van Hierdens lead and giving renewed hope to the guys behind.

Van Hierden restarted on the power again and eased away from the pack as the battle continued for the runner up spot for the rest of the race. Van Hierden drove off and collected his second straight feature win and his 5th of the season. Schneider ended the race long battle to secure second with Steenbergen taking third. Besaw, Schultz and Ebert rounded out the top six.

The IRA Sprint headliner saw an opening lap caution, which led to a non-stop 30 lap race won by Scott Uttech. For the full story click here www.irasprints.com
