ABC Raceway Inviting Fans to ‘Jam the Stands’ on Saturday
Ashland, WI — If you’re a race fan – or even if you’re just looking for something fun to do on a Saturday night – the ABC Raceway has a great idea for you, at a very affordable price.
Heartland Communications, which airs popular local radio stations WBSZ, 93.3 FM, and WJJH, 96.7 FM, throughout the Chequamegon Bay area, will present the annual “Jam the Stands” Night of stock car racing at the award-winning three-eighths-mile red-clay oval located just south of Ashland.
The half-price adult admission ticket was an idea kindled during the economic downturn of 2008-’09 as a way to keep fans coming to the races.
“I remember other track promoters telling us we were crazy, that we were committing financial suicide,” recalled Raceway president Eric Erickson recently. “Instead, it has turned into one of our most attended regular-season race nights of the year.
“Those same other promoters who thought we would lose our shirts are now hosting similar events of their own. It’s a great way to introduce new fans to the sport and to the racing family.”
Saturday’s program will include the track’s five weekly divisions – WISSOTA Modifieds, Super Stocks and Midwest Modifieds, as well as its own Six-Cylinders and Pure Stocks – for complete rounds of qualifying heat races and main-event action.
The event is also scheduled to be the first of two stops in Ashland for the Kim Parsons Memorial Trophy Tour. Long-time racing announcer Steve Parsons is slated to present trophies to each of the five feature winners, in honor of his late daughter Kim. Steve uses his visits to many Wisconsin racing facilities during the summer months to promote organ and tissue donation awareness.
The second stop for the Trophy Tour is set for October 2-3, during the Raceway’s 40th Red Clay Classic.
Hot laps begin at 6:15 pm, followed by first heat race of the night at 7. Adult tickets are just $5 each on this night only, and kids ages 12 and under are still admitted free with a paid adult admission. “Z-93 Race Night” will air Saturday on WBSZ, 93.3 FM, as well as stream online at www.wbszfm.com, from 4:30-6 pm with up-to-date track news and weather information.
The ABC Raceway is located 3-1/2 miles south of Ashland on State Highway 13 and one mile west on Butterworth Road. For raceday information call (715) 682-4990.
