Long and Handschke Win First Career Features at 141 Speedway
(Francis Creek, WI)- You always remember that first career win. Usually it happens with a heat race win one week and the feature later on. For Beau Handschke it just decided to happen on the same exact night. Beau Handschke picked up his first career 141 Speedway heat race win and then later in the evening won the feature.
Brandon Long won many features in his IMCA Sportmod career. It took just four months to earn his first career IMCA Modified win. Long outlasted the defending champ and big brother for the win.
John Heinz earned his sixth IMCA Stockcar Feature win.
Kodi Wirtz picked up his second Grand National win of the season.
Eddie Anschutz won the Street Stock Feature event.
Last year’s 4 Cylinder Champ Matt Brehmer won his first feature in a limited schedule.
Brandon Long started on the pole of the IMCA Modified Feature and quickly showed he was a man on a mission. Long started running the bottom but eventually found his racer just a tad quicker up top. Long led the event until the solo caution flew on lap 12. Last week’s winner Johnny Whitman tested the rookie on the restart. Whitman shot passed down low and grabbed the lead for the next two circuits. Long would not be denied and returned to form up top. Long came cruising along and back into the lead for the final lead change on lap 14. He kept both Whitman and big brother Josh at bay for the final seven laps to earn his first career win. Second place went to Whitman with Long third. By virtue of his third place finish, Josh became the new point leader. Jeremy Jacobs bested Eric Scribner for fourth.
John Adams bested Dan Nelson on the opening lap of the IMCA Stockcar Finale. Nelson came passed the leader on lap two. He would lead briefly as Jerry Leary would charge into the lead after a caution on lap four. Leary would hold the top spot when the caution would fly on lap eight. John Heinz and Devin Snellenberger used the restart to grab the second and third spots. Snellenberger would tangle with Heinz sending the point leader around. Heinz was given his spot back with Snellenberger being sent to the back for being deemed the caution. Heinz shot down low on the restart and passed Leary on lap nine. A caution on lap 12 allowed Brett Wenzel a shot at the leader. Wenzel made his way to second but Heinz was too much. Heinz cruised to his sixth win of the season ahead of Wenzel. Barry VanStraten ran a good race to finish third ahead of both Leary and Logan Rhode.
Mark Howe started on the pole of the IMCA Sportmod Feature and jumped out front ahead of his brother Scott. Mark would continue to lead as Beau Handschke charged to the second spot. Handschke put his right rear to work up top and found his line. Handschke worked his #16 around the leader on lap sixth and would never be touched. Handschke never faulted and was as smooth as silk in picking up his first career 141 Speedway win. He earned the clean sweep by also winning his heat race. Travis Hansen won a three car race for the second spot over Travis Arenz and Mark Howe. J.J. Anderson rounded out the top five.
The Street Stock Feature saw three different leaders in the first four laps and a total of five leaders. Kelly Rabe led the first lap with Allen Dillon taking over on lap two. Kraig Koehler would come calling on lap four with Mike Conard and Ed Anschutz in tow. Conard would run second but Anschutz got a run for second place causing Conard to run the high line. Conard’s car clicked up top and moved around Koehler for the lead on lap nine. Koehler came back on lap ten bringing Anschutz along for the ride. Anschutz dispatched of Koehler the next lap. Anschutz checked out like a grocery store clerk in picking up the win. Conard made his way to second as he crossed the line. Paul Diefenthaler came home third in front of Shawn Haydon and Koehler.
Glen Blanke used the tacky track to his advantage in the beginning of the Grand National Feature. Blanke led the crew while Kodi Wirtz quickly moved from eight to second on lap three. Wirtz ran down the leader and took control up top on lap seven. Wirtz took control by half a straightaway when the first caution came out on lap ten. Aaron Stolp and Charlie Sancinati found themselves behind the leader but could never forge passed. Wirtz controlled the finish and picked up his first win since taking home the checkered flag on opening night. Stolp won the battle for second over Sancinati. Kevin Naidl finished fourth with Seth Hoeffner running to another top five finish.
Matt Brehmer notched his way into the win column in the IMCA Sport Compact division. Brehmer is running this year on a limited basis and took home the win after taking off six weeks. Brehmer picked up the win in a tightly contested finish over Alex Seidl and Carl Bern. Scott Johnson improved his point lead by finishing fourth over Ryan Georgia.
