Class of ‘15 to be Inducted into ABC Raceway Hall of Fame on Saturday
on July 17, 2015 at 10:19 amAshland, WI — The ABC Raceway will take a moment this weekend to honor those who helped make it one of the premier dirt short-tracks in the Upper Midwest.
Induction of the nine members of the Class of 2015 into the Raceway’s Hall of Fame will take place during the track’s five-division stock car racing program on Saturday night, in a ceremony to be presented by the Safari Tavern of Ashland.
In addition, the drivers in the three WISSOTA-sanctioned divisions will be racing for the chance to qualify for the prestigious Afco Shocks Race of Champions event in September.
The Hall of Fame, which welcomed its inaugural group in 2014, will include four successful racers and five generous families who have all donated greatly, in one form or another, to the success of the facility.
To be inducted under the Driver category are former Super Stock standout Dick Christman, long-time Modified star Steve Kieber, former Super Stock racer and car owner Don Koivisto, and Six-Cylinder ace Jule Wilcox.
Under the Volunteers and Contributors category, the Class of ’15 will include the late Chuck & Lucy Anderson and their family, Bob & Geraldine Korpela, Walt & Diane Martens, Mike & Linda Sorenson and their family, and Lorraine and the late Jerry Zifko.
The inductees and their guests will be treated to a banquet dinner Saturday afternoon, then will be introduced to the fans on hand at the track during intermission of the race program.
Later in the show, the winners of the WISSOTA Modified, Super Stock and Midwest Modified features will punch their tickets for a trip to Huron, SD, where they will have the chance to qualify for the exclusive and high-paying Race of Champions in their respective divisions. The race, to be held at the Dakota State Fair Speedway as part of the annual WISSOTA 100 in mid-September, is an invitation-only event, open to the winners of RoC qualifiers being held all summer at every one of the 50 WISSOTA Promoters Association-member race facilities.
The show will also include complete heat race and feature action for the track’s own Six-Cylinders and Pure Stocks.
Hot laps begin at 6:15 pm, followed by first heat race of the night at 7. Adult tickets are just $10 each, and kids ages 12 and under admitted free with a paid adult admission. “Z-93 Race Night” will air Saturday on WBSZ, 93.3 FM, as well as stream online at www.wbszfm.com, from 4:30-6 pm with up-to-date track news and weather information.
The ABC Raceway is located 3-1/2 miles south of Ashland on State Highway 13 and one mile west on Butterworth Road. For raceday information call (715) 682-4990.
