SUCHOCKI SCORES STOCK CAR HARDWARE WHILE MOEDE WINS BY MERE INCHES
(Sturgeon Bay, WI) July 12, 2015 Results- Jamie Suchocki out lasted Jeremy Anschutz to score his first IMCA Stock Car feature of the season at Thunderhill Raceway. Other feature winners were Greg Gretz (IMCA Modified), Josh Lambert (IMCA Sport Mod), Marcus Moede (IMCA Hobby Stock) & James Dahlstrom (Street Stock)
The drivers bike race and give-away will take place next Sunday at Thunderhill Raceway and be brought to you by Bissen Asphalt and Sturgeon Bay Sand & Gravel. Racing starts at 5:30pm
Rookie Kevin Luedtke led from the drop of the green in the IMCA Stock Car headliner until Jeremy Anschutz maneuvered by. Anschutz then pulled away using the high-line on a perfectly smooth track. A 3-wide battle for third got physical as Billy LeMieux, Dave Bouche and Dylan Heilmann raced for the same real-estate, resulting in a caution and a flat tire for Heilmann on lap 4. On the restart Anschutz went right back to his groove but this time he had company as Jamie Suchocki hugged the tires down low, pulling even with the leader. The duo raced door to door until the midway point with Suchocki winning that battle. Billy LeMieux made a late race charge to the back bumper of Suchocki but it was too little too late as Suchocki took home the trophy. LeMieux had to settle for second, Bouche brought home third padding his point lead. Brothers Jeremy and John Anschutz capped off a great night placing fourth and fifth respectively.
The IMCA Hobby Stocks once again thrilled fans with another fantastic feature. Justin Hartel led until lap 5, that’s when Travis LuMaye raced by for the top spot. The caution flew for the spun cars of Ford Malvitz and Amber Weidner on lap 6. Under the caution LuMaye headed to put lane with mechanical woes handing the lead over to Schmidt. On the restart Schmidt jumped out to an early advantage as Marcus Moede raced through the top four and into second. With Schmidt running low, Moede went to the top and pulled along side the leader with 3 laps remaining. The caution flew for Rick LuMaye, setting up a dash to the checkers. Schmidt adjusted his line to the middle groove on the restart. As they took the white flag it was Schmidt leading by the slimmest of margins. The duo were locked in a dead heat as they rounded the final corner. Coming to the checker it was Moede by mere inches over Schmidt in a thriller. Malvitz rallied to place third, Hartel and Weidner completed the top five.
In auto racing you can only compete with whoever shows up. In this case only one other driver wanted to take on current IMCA Modified point leader Greg Gretz and that was Tyler DeBouche. For DeBouche it was very uncertain if he would race at all. He borrowed an engine from a fellow racer for part of the year but had to give it back last week. In the 11th hour a sponsor came through and they pieced together a Chevy small block and made it on time to the track. Gretz went on to win the heat and feature with his Ford powered machine. DeBouche took second and was thankful to be back at the track.
James Dahlstrom came from row four and motored by Jimmy Anderson on lap 2 of the Street Stock feature. Dahlstrom dominated the remainder of the event and scored his 5th checker of the season. Billy LeMieux ran second, Phil Faustini was third, Fred Davister had his best night so far with fourth and despite racing with a broken wrist, Dennis Weidner placed fifth.
“The Jackhammer” Josh Lambert led wire to wire making it 2 wins in a row in the IMCA Sport Mods. Randy LeMieux Jr. was second followed by Bernie Reinhardt, Vince Engebregtsen and Jacob Zellner. Lambert also made a clean sweep on the night by picking up a heat race win.
