Kilgore, Madden, Lamberies, Van Pay and Boulanger add wins

LUXEMBURG, Wis. (July 10, 2015) – Just days after picking up his first ever Late Model win at Shawano, two-time Modified track Champion Jared Siefert picked up his first Luxemburg Late Model checkered. He outgunned Tom Naeyaert and Mike Mullen to capture the 25-lap Showcase Kitchens feature.

Siefert wasted no time getting to the front of the field in the main. As the field rushed into turn one pole sitter Aaron Holiday ducked to the low line. Outside pole sitter Doug Blashe tested the top line, but didn’t discover the grip he was searching for. The split left the middle lane open for Siefert to capitalize. Mullen, who started inside the second row alongside Siefert, slid to second.

It looked as though Siefert, Mullen and Tom Naeyert were going to be left to decide the win when things sorted out in the first three laps. They were, but not without some work for Mullen. On lap three Mullen spun to the infield in turns one and two. He was sent to the tail of the field and was forced to climb back through.

When the green fell Siefert and Naeyaert both escaped the pack. The green flag run lasted just another 7 laps until a caution come out involving Ron Berna, Brett Swedberg and Holiday.

Wisely, Siefert took advantage of having the front row to himself to hold off Naeyaert’s charge on the inside coming back to green. The move allowed Siefert to gain a comfortable advantage until the yellow came again on lap 12 for in incident involving Justin Ritchie.

The lap 12 restart saw Naeyeart hang with Siefert when the field was set back into motion. In short order Mullen worked past Doug Blashe for fourth, then past Kyle Odekirk to third. By lap 17 he was on the outside of Naeyaert challenging for second.

Mullen seemed to have the fastest of the top three cars, but he couldn’t shake free. Siefert remained in the top line while Naeyaert tested the inside. On several occasions in the final three laps it looked as though Naeyaert had the run, but he was turned away by Siefert’s charge on the outside. In the final set of turns coming to checkered Naeyaert appeared to bobble, leaving Siefert to escape for the win. Naeyaert held on for second over Mullen, Swedberg was fourth and Kyle Odekirk rounded out the top five.

Evening sponsor Showcase Kitchens put some extra cash on the line for the winner of the Street Stock main. Not surprisingly current point leader Scott Boulanger was able to pick up his fifth win of the season to grab the prize. However, he had to hold of a hearty challenge from Ed Anschutz.

From his fifth-place starting spot Anschutz grabbed the lead on lap two. Seeking his second Street Stock win, Anschutz was joined quickly by Boulanger on lap five. Boulanger went to work and grabbed the lead heading to lap six. Before he could build a lead the yellow fell for a spin by John Young on lap 9.

Boulanger and Anschutz stepped away from the rest of the field on the restart. It looked as though Boulanger was to remain unchallenged to the checkered until Anschutz found some life. On lap 18 he pulled even. The duo again went side-by-side to the white flag. However, with Anschutz up high, Boulanger was able to hold on for the win by sliding up to protect the top groove. Jerry Winkler finished third, Scott Karbon fourth and Jason Kostichka rounded out the top five.

A shootout in the Modifieds saw Shawn Kilgore pick up his second feature win of the season. Kilgore and Benji LaCrosse came from the fifth row to settle the score in the final circuits of the 20-lap feature.

Luke Lemmens seized the early lead in the feature, but soon surrendered it to fellow front-row starter Brandon Long. As Long built up his lead, Kilgore and LaCrosse carefully picked their way through traffic. Kilgore was to third by lap four. LaCrosse was to fourth on the following lap.

Just as Kilgore and LaCrosse arrived, Lemmens resurged and pulled even with Long. This was no problem for Kilgore who simply placed his racer as low as possible entering turns three and four to make it a three-wide battle for the top spot. The display lasted for two laps with Kilgore finally securing the lead on lap 11. Two laps later, once Long and Lemmens settled their score, LaCrosse snuck past Long into second.

Over the final seven laps, LaCrosse worked the outside line in an attempt to run down Kilgore. Kilgore used both lines around the race track, staying high in turns one and two and ducking low in three and four. The extra grip proved to be enough as Kilgore kept LaCrosse at bay. Lemmens overtook Long for third and Tyler Hackett rounded out the top five.

A mad scramble at the green highlighted the 20-lap IMCA Stock Car main event. In the end patience paid off for Evan Madden as he picked up his second win of the season.

The IMCA Stock Cars always seem to find one or two extra racing grooves at Luxemburg. On a night when there were two clear grooves, a four-wide pass for the lead was completed by Rod Snellenberger as he soared past Dave Bouche, Derek Moede and early-race leader Chris Mailfroid.

From there on, it was anyone’s contest. Bouche remained stout on the inside line and nudged past Snellenbergr on lap seven. In their rear view mirrors were two- and three-wide battles from third on back. Eventually Snellenberger had fallen back to third on the outside and tucked to the inside line. This move left the outside line open for Evan Madden to pull even with Bouche for the top spot on lap 14.

Unfortunately for Madden, the yellow came down for an incident involving Chris and Eric Mailfroid on that lap. When the green fell again Madden wasted no time going back to work as he shot past Bouche into the lead. Madden’s move on the outside was recreated a few laps later by Shawn Havel as he cruised to second. Bouche held on for third, Brett Wenzel was fourth and a visiting Travis Van Straten was fifth.

A strong move off a mid-race restart was all Lucas Lamberies needed to put himself in position to pick up his third IMCA Sport Mod feature win of 2015. Lamberies grabbed the lead on lap 11 of the 20-lap feature.

Wayne Haines led the field to green and fought off outside-pole-sitter Cody Rass for the early lead. Behind him Vince Engebretson, Chris Budzban, Jacob Zellner and Kelsy Hayes disputed the second spot. Just as Zellner started to push ahead to battle with Engebretson and Budzban his racer snapped sideways and spun to the infield, bringing out the only yellow on lap nine.

Lamberies started on the outside of the third row, but skied up top in the high line to grab second by lap 10. He immediately went to work on Haines and had the lead on lap 11. Behind Lamberies, Haines was soon challenged by Budzban and Hayes. While those challenges took place point leader Todd Wiese picked through the top five. He took third from Budzban on lap 16 and stole second from Hayes at the line on the final lap.

Lamberies win was the largest margin of the night at just a few car lengths over the battle for second. Budzban finished fourth, Josh Lambert rounded out the top five.

Dan Van Pay had to work for his fourth win of the season. It took all 15 laps for him to settle the dispute in the feature event. Pole-sitter Cody Junio provided the best challenge as he and Van Pay raced side-by-side from lap 11 until the white flag. Junio bobbled out of turn two allowing Van Pay to escape. Corey Cotter and Marcus Moede also took advantage to round out the top three.

Luxemburg Speedway is off next week due to the Kewaunee County Fair. There is a 150-lap Impact Survival Series Enduro taking place on Saturday, July 18.
