ABC Raceway to Offer Treat for Kids, Big Money for Mods on Saturday
Ashland, WI — On Saturday night the ABC Raceway will get back to racing action with a couple of popular treats for both the drivers and fans.
For the drivers – at least those wheeling the high-powered WISSOTA Modifieds – the treat will be enhanced purse and $800 first-place paycheck waiting for the winner of that division’s feature at the conclusion of the “Modified Mayhem” special event, to be presented by Lake Shore Cafe & Catering of Ashland.
For the fans in attendance, especially the younger ones, the track will host its annual “Meet the Drivers” activities, to be presented by Little Caesar’s Pizza of Ashland.
The boosted purse for the Mods has drawn some very fast visitors in past years to challenge the ABC regulars in an attempt to take the big money home. But the two most recent winners of the event – defending race winner Jeff Spacek of Phillips and Ashland’s Steve Stuart, who also won on the Raceway’s last night of action, on June 27 – have proven themselves to be the dominant drivers on Ashland’s red-clay oval, claiming 14 regular-season feature wins between them since the start of the 2013 schedule, and three of the last four track championships.
The Mods will participate in a series of timed group qualifying sessions, with the qualifying times used to determine the line-ups for the heat races.
Prior to the racing action, however, will be a chance for fans of all ages to visit with the drivers on the Raceway’s front straight. The annual “meet-and-greet” session is, of course, popular with the fans, as they get to see the race cars up close, plus often get photos, autographs and other treats from the drivers. And for the drivers, it’s a great opportunity to connect with their loyal fans as well as make new ones.
In addition, several drivers will be bringing bikes to give away to the younger fans through drawings to be held during the race program.
The show will also include complete heat race and feature action for the WISSOTA-sanctioned Super Stocks and Midwest Modifieds, as well as the track’s own Six-Cylinders and Pure Stocks.
Hot laps begin at 6:15 pm, followed by the qualifying session for the Mods and then the on-track “meet-and-greet” session. The first heat races of the night are scheduled to start at 7. Adult tickets are just $10 each, and kids ages 12 and under admitted free with a paid adult admission. “Z-93 Race Night” will air Saturday on WBSZ, 93.3 FM, as well as stream online at www.wbszfm.com, from 4:30-6 pm with up-to-date track news and weather information.
The ABC Raceway is located 3-1/2 miles south of Ashland on State Highway 13 and one mile west on Butterworth Road. For raceday information call (715) 682-4990.
