Seymour July 5 Results

Seymour, July 5-Another beautiful day to end a Long July 4th holiday weekend and for racing Sunday night at the Seymour Speedway. Frank’s Place and O’Reillly Auto Parts presented the Summer Holiday Classic, which featured the five regular divisions.

The O’Reilly Auto Parts IMCA Sport Mods kicked off the feature portion of the program , and after a couple false starts, got settled in for the 20 lap event. Hunter Parsons grabbed the initial lead with Andrew Meyerhofer, Bill Edler, Jordan Bartz, Robby Theil and Travis Arenz bunched behind. A lone caution appeared on lap 4 for debris and it was 16 straight laps after the restart.

Parsons again set he pace with Lucas Lamberies making a charge to the front running the outside line. Arenz, Kevin Bethke Edler and Bartz lined up behind. The lead pair rand side by side for several laps before Lamberies finally settled into the top spot on lap 10. Once in front. Lamberies was able to ease away from the field and drove off to collect his fifth feature win of the season. Parsons settled for a strong finish in second with Arenz in third. Bethke added another top 4 finish with Russel Franks taking fifth and Theil holding at sixth.

Turbo Blue Street Stocks were on the speedway next with Dylan Stedjee taking the position of lead car for the first 2 laps before Jeff Dorschner was scored as the leader on lap 3. Ryan Blank moved up to the top spot one lap later, only to suddenly pull his car to the infield after a lap 5 restart. A couple more cautions kept the field bunched with Lexii Ashcraft now the leader, followed by Allan Schlueter, Tony Everard, Jeff Jungwirth and Clint Evans.

When racing resumed on lap 7, Ashcraft was in control but Schlueter was right behind and was able to pull alongside on lap 9. They ran side by side for a couple laps before Schlueter was able to take charge by lap 12. Jungwirth worked his way through traffic and up to challenge Ashcraft for the runner up spot over the final laps, with Matt Warner also in the mix.

Schlueter took the white flag, but a caution on the final lap ended the run with Schlueter taking his third feature win of the season and ended Ashcrafts string at three straight. Jungwirth was able to take the runner up spot with Ashcraft settling for third. Warner held off Everard for fourth with Harley Diedrich securing the top six finish.

It took several tries to get the first lap in the books for the Budweiser IMCA Modifieds, and Trevor Spaulding led the way for the first lap before Eric Scribner pulled into the top spot and proceeded to pull away from the rest of the pack. Spaulding held the runner up spot until, Marcus Yarie, moved into the spot on lap 8. Johnny Whitman started the race 17 and by lap 8 moved into third. For the rest of the race, the top three ran spread out leaving the race to watch for fourth. T.J. Smith, Konnor Wilinski, Spaulding and Eric Arneson were running together. Chad Bartel worked his way back to the front after an earlier incident put him in the back of the field.

At the finish, Scribner took his second feature win of the season with Yarie in the runner up spot several car lengths back. Whitman was third with Smith taking fourth. Bartel came through to finish 5th and Wilinski rounded out the top six.

A field of 23 Coors Light IMCA Stock Cars took the green with Steve Hiles setting the pace for the opening 3 laps before Chas Van Ooyen, Jr found the inside line and settled into the top spot. Travis Van Straten moved up from mid pack quickly and found the runner up spot on lap 5. The lead race lasted 2 laps before Van Straten was able to take the top spot.

A lone caution appeared on lap 12 and bunched the field. Van Straten was still the leader with Van Ooyen, Kyle Frederick, Rod Snellenberger, Devin Snellengberger Brandon Gagnon and Travis Springstroh behind. The field remained tight to the finish with Van Straten picking up his 4th feature win of the season. Van Ooyen won the battle for second with Frederick taking third. Hot Rod bested son Devin for 4th with Gagnon rounding out the top six.

The 4 Cylinder nightcap was a tight battle from start to finish. Brian Johnson grabbed the lead with Joe Minks, Kasey Gross, Tyler Hungerford, Carl King and Tanner Westphal behind. Minks came up to challenge for the lead on lap 3 and after a couple laps of side by side was able to take the lead. Gross, Westphal, King, Roger Braun kept the pack tight at the front and on lap 8 started to catch lapped cars. On lap 10, while trying to get by a group of five cars, the lead pack tried to scramble by out of turn 2. The field was reset with the leaders getting their positions back, and another caution on the next lap set up a 4 lap dash to the finish. Minks was to be the leader, but the accident bent the front end so Point leader, Tanner Westphal, was the new leader. Westphal had to withstand the heavy traffic for the lead and was able to hold off all challengers to win his first feature of the season. Roger Braun, making his first visit to Seymour, wound up taking the runner up spot. Gross took the thirds place finish. Mitchell Fairbank took fourth with King and Jason Czarapata rounding out the top six.

Brandon “Smokey” Van Ooyen was the winner in the Thunder Trucks.

Starting next week, July 12, race time is being moved back to 6 PM.

Coming on July 19, the WDLMA Late Models will join the program for their first visit of the season as part of their Lucky 7 Series. All other divisions will be in action that night as well.
