Red Cedar Shines

Menomonie, Wisconsin (June 26, 2015) the Red Cedar Speedway sponsored by Old Dutch and Slush Puppie presented the WISSOTA Poly Dome Dirt Track Series sanctioned Street Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Super Stocks, Modifieds, and Late Models, along with the Kadinger Auto Salvage Pure Stocks and Value Implement Hornets. Feature winners included Jimmy Mars, Darrell Nelson, Mike Anderson, Shane Halopka, Sam Fankhauser, Kent Harmon, and Jeremy Johnson.

The T.L. Sinz Plumbing Late Model heats were won by Mike Prochnow and Rick Hanestad as Buddy Hanestad and Chad Mahder graced the front row of the feature. Mahder quickly moved to the lead and led the first two circuits as forth starting Rick Hanestad closed and moved below him for the front spot. Eighth starting Jimmy Mars moved to second on lap three on the high side and blasted past Rick Hanestad for the point four laps later. As Mars extended his lead to a half lap by the checkered flag, Rick Hanestad maintained second. AJ Diemel moved to the third position as Mahder finished fourth and Mike Prochnow ran fifth.
The Tim’s Automotive Modified heats were won by Darrell Nelson and Ashley Anderson as Zach Drews and Steve Hallquist held the front row. Hallquist took the lead as Mike Anderson closed to challenge on the high side. Anderson could get beside the leader but couldn’t complete the pass. He changed his line to the low groove to try to find a way to the lead as Darrell Nelson took advantage and moved to second in the highline. Ashley Anderson moved into third likewise. Soon, Nelson was able to work his way to the leader and drive under for first. Ashley Anderson accomplished the same and closed to challenge Nelson late, but Nelson led to the checkers. Ashley Anderson, Steve Hallquist, Mike Anderson, and Dave Baxter finished in the top five of the nonstop event.
Two Johnson Motors Super Stocks heats were won by Mike Anderson and Jason Forehand. In the feature, Cole Spacek and Rick Hallquist paced the field as Spacek took the initial lead. Behind him, Hallquist was in a battle for second with fifth starting Anderson and eighth starting Jason Forehand. A lap three spin by Jesse Redetzke moved him to the back. The restart found Anderson outside of the second row and it was the only break he needed. Driving deep into turn one and sweeping into the lead coming off turn two, Anderson didn’t look back as he drove on to his sixth Super Stock feature win of the year. Spacek ran hard in second, but was overtaken at the white flag by Forehand. Redetzke recovered from his early caution to finish fourth over Gunnar Watkins in fifth.
The Southworth Chevrolet Midwest Modifieds heat winners were Travis Anderson and Grant Southworth as Karl Kolek and Josh Wahlstrom held the front row of the feature. At the start, fourth starting Shane Halopka wasted no time and swept to the lead, and despite a few cautions which slowed the action, he led the entire distance to the win. In the early going, sixth starting Jake Smith moved to second and shortly thereafter, Robbie Johnson spun collecting Ben Schultz ending Shultz’s night and resetting the field. Michael Truscott restarted fifth and used the high side to drive to second and try to track down the leader. Andrew Inman spun in turn two, again resetting the field. Grant Southworth used the restart to advance into third as Halopka sailed to his seventh feature win of the season over Truscott, Southworth, Smith, and Kolek.
Sam Fankhauser and Danny Richards won the two Conrad’s Auto Salvage Street Stock heats as Kolby Kiehl and Richards held the front row of the feature. One the start, third starting Fankhauser moved to the lead but on lap two, the yellow flew for a spinning Kevin Bogdanovic. The first attempt at a restart was aborted and the second was led by Fankhauser again. Richards followed and challenged Fankhauser the entire remaining distance, but Fankhauser completed the sweep of the night. Adam Soltis moved past Hunter VanGilder for third as Cody Kummer followed suit and relegated VanGilder to a fifth place finish.
The Kadinger Auto Salvage Pure Stocks found heat winner Kent Harmon sweeping the night’s action for his second consecutive feature win. It was Brett Myers and George Richards on the front row as Myers led after one lap. Harman moved inside for the point on lap two as Jason Hovel moved to second. Jesse Bryan flexed his muscles and drove to third, under Hovel for second, and edged into the lead on the backstretch. Harmon fought back and regained the point as Bryan and Havel battled door to door for position. Hovel found the middle of the track to his liking and moved past Bryan and then edged to the lead at the white flag. Harmon held his own and drove back to the front with a half lap remaining. It was Harmon at the line by half a car over Hovel, closely followed by Bryan in third. Richards was scored fourth and Mike Grover fifth.
The Value Implement Hornets heats were won by William Voeltz and Bradley York as Voeltz and Sean Svee paced the feature. Voeltz took the immediate lead, but Jordan Langer drew a lap two caution. On the restart, fifth starting Jeremy Johnson moved to second and began to close on the leader. Two laps later he moved under Voeltz to the point; however, Voeltz battled back for the lead at the halfway mark. Johnson wasn’t finished as he moved outside the leader and fought side by side, eventually moving back out front. As the two drivers continued to battle to the checkered flag, Jesse Tripp closed to join but ran out of laps to gain position. Johnson won his ninth feature of the season over Voeltz as Tripp, Darrell Komro, and Svee rounded out the top five.
