SpeedZone June 26 results

Oshkosh, June 26- A perfect night for racing greeted 117 race teams and nice crowd for a fast paced program Friday night at the Oshkosh SpeedZone Raceway.

The end result was three first time and three repeat feature winners so far this season.

The IMCA Sport Mods took the first feature green flag with rookie Jason Ebert setting the pace followed by Scott Howe, Andrew Meyerhofer, Chase Randerson and Tim Sheppard. Despite a couple early race cautions and a final on lap 14, Ebert seta solid pace to lead the way. Jeff Schmuhl, Brandon Schmitt, Ryan Besaw and Colten Van Hierden were lined up behind for the final restart.

On the green, Schmuhl made a quick dash to the inside of Ebert entering turn one at the same time Schmitt took to the outside. Schmuhl took the lead with Schmitt taking the runner up spot. Schmuhl was able to control the final 6 laps and collected his first feature win of the season. Schmitt fought with the leader to the final lap, when Colten Van Hierden was able to sneak by at the finish line to take second. Schmitt took third with Ebert taking his best finish of the season in 4th. Tom Schneider was the fifth place finisher with Jon Schultz rounding out the top six.

The Gold Star Racing Products Grand Nationals put their field on the track with Brian Henry taking charge for the opening 2 laps before Kenny Richards powered by and set of the build a huge lead. Terry Van Roy, Dereck Schrauth and Dean Koch battled for the first half of the race for second, Richards drove off to win his 3rd straight victory with Henry running alone in second place. Van Roy, Tim Doehling, Schrauth and Koch rounded out the top six.

It took a couple tries to get a lap in the books at the start of the Automotive Supply Company IMCA Modifieds with rookie Trevor Spauilding leading the way followed by Andy Gross, John Schjultz, Zeke Bishofberger, Tim Robbins and Mike Mueller. After a lap 5 caution, Bishofberger took over the lad and started to pull away. Mueller was next to move up and took over second on lap 7 with Robbins and Dan Roedl making the top four. The top four pulled away until a final caution bunched the field on lap 17 for a final 3 lap dash to the finish. Bishofberger, Roedl, Mueller, Chris Engels, Robbins and Jeremy Christians were ready for the final run.

Bishofberger controlled the lead to the finish with Mueller making a charge on the outside over the final lap to fall just short and finished second. Roedl was third with Engels finishing in fourth. Christiasns and Marcus Yarie rounded out the top six. In post race inspection, Engels was DQ’d which moved Robbins into the top six spot.

The win for Bishofberger was his first at the SpeedZone since winning 4 features and the track championship in the sport Mods in 2011. It was also his first career Modified feature win and first in IMCA.

Chase Soloman set the pace for the first 3 laps of the Outlaw Chassis Street Stock main with Dan Knaus taking over on lap 4. Steve Ecker powered by on the outside into the lead on lap 7 and then set sail to hide from the pack, driving off with his second straight and 4th overall feature win this season. Knaus held off a late race charge by point leader, Jeff Jungwirth, for second. Steve Gawaresky, Jason Fairbank and Wayne Morgan made up the top six.

The Total Power Sales IMCA Stock Cars were up next with Steve Hiles leading the opening lap before Jerry Winkler put his car in front. A lap 7 cautions slowed the pace and Winkler resumed the top spot on the restart followed by Dion Wahl, Dylan Heilmann, Joe White, Larry Karcz and Travis Van Straten. By lap 10, John Heinz had worked into tile contention and took over the lead on lap 12. Van Strated was also in the mix and the top 3 powered away from the field. By lap 12, Van Straten was running the outside groove and was pressuring for the lead. On lap 16, down the back chute, Heinz and Van Straten were dead even. Heinz had a left rear flat, and entering turn three, bobbled just enough for Winkler to dive to the inside and out of turn four they crossed the line three wide, as the caution was displayed for the final time for a turn 2 spin. When the trio hit turn one, there was contact which caused Van Straten to spin. Heinz drove off to the pit and Van Straten was put back up front because the caution was for another incident.

Van Straten held off challengers over the final couple laps to secure his 4th feature win overall. Justin Jacobsen was in second followed by Winkler, Heilmann, Karcz, and Wahl.

Seth Hickman led the opening lap of the Ellington Mutual Insurance Dirt Devil main with Aaron Milavils and Kasey Gross getting by on lap 2. The pair pulled away from the field with Gross able to work inside for the lead on lap 11. Gross and Milavils ran nose to tail for the rest of the race with Gross picking up his first feature win of the season here just ahead of Milavils. Mitchell Fairbank was next in line with Wes Lungwitz, Scott Tiedt and John Stegner rounding out the top six.

Next week wil be the Domino’s Night if Fire, with a full six division program on the track and in the sky with a huge Fireworks display following the racing action.
