Super Stock Special, Cancer Fundraiser at ABC Raceway on Saturday

Ashland, WI — The ABC Raceway will host two big events on Saturday as it continues to overhaul its 2015 stock car racing season schedule.
Set for this date on the original slate, the award-winning red-clay oval south of Ashland will hold its annual “Cure for Cancer” fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, with the help of Northern Clearing Inc of Ashland.
Last summer race fans dug deep and contributed nearly $2,800 towards the Ashland-Bayfield County chapter’s “Relay for Life” fundraising effort. Many members of the area’s “Relay for Life” program are expected to be on hand to collect donations for the worthy cause.

In addition, what was to be Race 2 of the three-race, three-track FastLane Motorsports Northland Super Stock Series last Saturday night was called off due to excessively wet track conditions. So track officials from Superior’s AmsOil Speedway and the Proctor (MN) Speedway agreed that ABC host the Series finale tonight.
The Series, which offers a total purse and points fund of over $23,000, has completed two legs, with both features won by Curt Myers of Cameron. With a victory at Ashland on Saturday, Myers will have taken home $1,700 in first-place checks and will earn an additional $1,200 bonus for having swept the main events at all three participating tracks, plus he should have the inside track for the Series’ $1,600 championship check.
If betting were allowed, Myers could very well be the odds-on favorite. In the ABC Raceway’s only program completed this season, the former two-time Red Clay Classic champion worked his way through traffic quickly and collected his 20th career feature win in Ashland. In addition, Myers is already flirting with 20 feature wins this summer, giving him a strong boost to the top of the WISSOTA national Super Stock standings.
Besides the $600 feature winner’s check, drivers competing in the Northland Super Stock Series will have several other chances to make a few extra dollars. The top ten in the final Series standings will take home healthy points-fund checks, and any driver competing in all three Series races but not finishing in the top-ten will a receive “Participant Non-Qualifier Bonus,” which has recently been increased to $150.
Also, the driver who gains the most positions from his starting spot during Saturday’s feature will earn a $100 “Hard Charger” bonus. Jeff Klopstein of Tomahawk earned the bonus with his strong run at Superior on June 19, and Spencer Sorenson of Duluth, MN, gained the extra cash after the June 21 show in Proctor.
Finally, the driver who cumulatively gains the most positions with his efforts in all three features will earn an additional bonus of $100. Heading into Saturday’s program at ABC, the “Series Hard Charger” is Montreal’s Cory Casari.
“This Series could not have been even attempted without the generosity of some very special sponsors,” Series organizer and Proctor (MN) Speedway president Dennis McCauley said earlier this week. Those sponsors included FastLane Motorsports & Custom Powdercoating; Lulich Implement; Northern Clearing; White River Ag Products; Total Recreation; Arrowhead Printing; Duluth/Superior Trophy; Rick Gondik Law Office; Village Lanes; Como Oil & Propane; the NAPA Auto Parts stores of Duluth, Superior and Ashland; Halvor Lines; Dennis & Cathy Pattee; Tim’s Automotive; Stone Lake Oil and Sunoco; Northern Fitness Solutions; and the Kom-On-Inn Bar.
The program will include complete heat race and feature action in all five of the Raceway’s regular weekly divisions, including the WISSOTA-sanctioned Modifieds and Midwest Modifieds as well as the Supers, plus the track’s own Six-Cylinders and Pure Stocks.
Fans who attended the rain-shortened racing program at Ashland on June 6 and did not use their admission wristbands to gain entry into the June 13 show are encouraged to bring them tonight, as they will still be honored for admission to this Saturday’s program only.
Hot laps begin at 6:15 pm, and the first green flag of the season is scheduled to be thrown at 7. Adult tickets are just $10 each, and kids ages 12 and under admitted free with a paid adult admission. “Z-93 Race Night” will air Saturday on WBSZ, 93.3 FM, from 4:30-6 pm with up-to-date track news and weather information.
The ABC Raceway is located 3-1/2 miles south of Ashland on State Highway 13 and one mile west on Butterworth Road. For raceday information call (715) 682-4990.
