Ten Locked In, Heinz and Hayes Cash in on Night #1 at The Clash at The Creek
(Francis Creek, WI) Ten drivers have punched their tickets into tonight’s $10,000 to win IMCA Modified Feature. 74 IMCA Modifieds ran two sets of heats that saw the top ten in passing points automatically make up the front five rows for tonight.
The starting lineup is as follows:
Row 1 Johnny Whitman Justin O’Brien
Row 2 Eric Mahlik Russ Reinwald
Row 3 Brad Lautenbach Shawn Kilgore
Row 4 Tim Czarneski Benji LaCrosse
Row 5 Brian Irvine James Tebon
Tonight’s IMCA Modified portion of the show will see 10 last chance races where the winner will advance to the feature. The second and third place finishers in those races will be put into one last race called the final four. The top four in this race will make up starting spots 21-24.
New to The Clash at The Creek 2015 is an event called THE AUCTION. The 25th starting spot will go to the driver, fan or sponsor that donates the most money for the starting spot. That money will be allocated back into the final payout for the feature.
Kyle Frederick charged from fourth to first in the opening lap of the IMCA Stockcar Feature. Frederick took the lead on a three-wide pass that saw Troy Muench come in right behind the leader. Frederick worked the top with Muench down low. Enter Travis Van Straten and John Heinz. Van Straten and Heinz worked their way to the front duo and would send the race three and four wide at different points for the lead. Heinz would eventually take charge down low. Van Straten would try different lines mid race but couldn’t make the pass. A yellow with three laps remaining set up a dash for the $500. Heinz pulled away over the remaining laps to take the top prize. Van Straten won a late race battle with Muench for second. Dustin Loberger took over the fourth spot late with Frederick finishing fifth.
Late race dramatics determined the outcome of the IMCA Sportmod Feature event. Tracy Wassenberg jumped from the pole and into the lead early with Lucas Lamberies hot on his heels. Wassenberg stayed low with Lamberies running the top gaining traction and momentum on the leader. Lamberies shot pass Wassenberg on lap four and led through a couple of mid-race cautions. Kelsy Hayes used the restart to bolt in to second and distance herself from the pack. Lamberies had the win all to himself until he slid sideways with three laps remaining; handing the lead to Hayes. Lamberies wasn’t done just yet and tracked down Hayes coming to the white flag. Coming into turn three on the final lap Lamberies got into the back of Hayes causing the leader to spin and carnage to ensue behind. The yellow was thrown and the line up went back to the last completed lap taking out Lamberies. Kelsy Hayes grabbed her third straight win and the $500 payday. Travis Arenz who was tracking down the leaders late finished second. Wassenberg finished third but was disqualified for an illegal transmission. Jarred Van Laanen was awarded third. Scott Boyea finished fourth after starting the feature in 20th. Kevin Bethke rounded out the top five.
