VanPay, Frederick and Hayes Gain Momentum Heading into Clash at the Creek VII
(Francis Creek, WI)- The battle lines have been drawn. Everyone knows what they have in their cars as they ready for Clash at the Creek this next week.
The hottest three drivers entering the Clash are R.M. VanPay who has won the last two IMCA Modified Features. Kyle Frederick who looked like a man that could put his car anywhere on the track and go forward in the IMCA Stockcar division. Last but not least, Kelsy Hayes, who has won two straight IMCA Northern Sportmod Features.
James Tebon started third in the IMCA Modified Finale and drove to the lead at the end of lap one. Luke Lemmens came flying passed up on top to lead lap two but contact between the top two sent Tebon spinning causing the first caution on lap three. Tebon would resume as the leader with R.M. VanPay quickly making his presence felt. VanPay walked the tight rope around the track on top and powered passed Tebon on lap seven. VanPay led through one last caution on lap 11. VanPay would cruise to his second straight win in the IMCA Modifieds. VanPay scored the clean sweep on the night as he also won his heat. Jay Matthias finished second in front of Shawn Kilgore. James Tebon would finish fourth ahead of Tyler Hackett.
Logan Rhode drove around in his IMCA Stockcar as the leader for the first four laps of the Main Event. Rhode looked strong up front but not strong enough to hold off eventual race winner Kyle Frederick. Frederick moved from sixth to the lead on lap five after a move down low. Frederick would pull away from the field, leaving the battle for second. Troy Muench started 14th on the field and quickly found his way to second. Muench would get the break he needed when a final caution flew on lap 15. Frederick stayed true up on top of the track and pulled away yet again for his second win of the season. Muench finished second ahead of Rhode, Brett Wenzel and Todd Augustian.
Scott Howe jumped out to a sizable lead early in the IMCA Sportmod Feature only to see a yellow bring everyone to his rear bumper on lap three. Kelsy Hayes used the restart to her advantage and moved from third to first on the restart. Hayes went unchallenged en route to her second straight win and third overall. The battle for second heated up in the waning laps as Tom Stark and Ryan Lemieux made contact in turn two with two laps remaining. Both racers limped their cars back to the line with Lemieux edging out Stark for second. Hunter Parsons won a late race battle for fifth over Race VanPay.
Charlie Sancinati wrecked his racecar on Friday night that brought him three Grand National Feature wins at the speedway this season. In a back up car he never missed a beat in picking up his fourth win of the season. Rex Karner and Evan Beattie battled for the lead early in the caution filled race. Terry Van Roy rushed his way passed and into the lead on lap six. Point leader Kodi Wirtz came forward and at on point went for the lead in a three-wide battle. A caution came out which allowed Sancinati to enter the picture. Sancinati put his car up on top of the 1/3 mile and moved around both Van Roy and Wirtz to grab the lead on lap eight. Sancinati kept everyone near as he led through more mid-race cautions. Sancinati pulled away once the remainder of the race went caution free. He scored win number four of the season in front of Kodi Wirtz and Van Roy. Dan Schumacher battled to fourth after starting 14th. Steven Wirtz rounded out the top five.
Allen Dillon was counting laps down in the Street Stock Feature event once he reached half way. Unfortunately for him, Kraig Koehler had other thoughts of who should win. Dillon led the first 11 laps of the race before Koehler used the bottom of the track to get around him and into the lead. Koehler cruised in the final laps to win the caution free event. The win was his second of the season. Dillon finished with a career high second place finish. Eric Turner held off the advances of Scott Boulanger to finish third. Point leader Paul Diefenthaler finished fifth.
Dustin Forbes has raced at 141 Speedway one time this year. He now has a clean sweep of both the IMCA Sport Compact Feature and Heat to show for it. Forbes only hiccup on his way to the win was a red flag that saw Zac Anderson flip his machine in turn four. Forbes flew away from the field in picking up the win. Scott Johnson extended his point lead with his second place finish. Ryan Georgia, Brandon Kaye and Taylor Becher all finished in the top five.
This coming week is the Clash at the Creek VII. There is an open practice from 6-9 on Tuesday, June 23rd. Racing gets underway at 6 p.m. On both Wednesday and Thursday.
