SpeedZone Results June 19
Oshkosh, June 19- A perfect night for Oshkosh Lanes to present a full program Friday night at the Oshkosh SpeedZone Raceway that produced 4 repeat feature winners and 2 first timers. 131 cars signed in to do battle on a smooth fast track.
The Total Power Sales IMCA Stock Cars were up first with Dion Wahl leading the opening lap with Joe White taking charge on the next circuit. Jerry Winkler moved up to challenge the leader and ran side by side for a few laps while John Heinz and point leader Travis Van Straten made their way from mid pack to the front. Coming up for lap 10, Heinz was able to make the move to take thelead from Winkler and 2 laps later, Van Straten was running second. For the last half of the race, Van Straten tried every line to take the lead but Heinz was able to hold off each challenge and picked up his first feature win of the season. Van Straten would be right behind in second. Greg Gutt, making a visit to his home state, had an impressive run, passing Winkler on the final lap to steal third. Wahl, also had the best run of the season finishing fifth with White rounding out the top six, in the non-stop contest.
Brekken Kleinschmidt, Tim Sheppard, Jeff Steenbergen and Brock Saunders all took turns as race leader over the opening laps of the IMCA Sport Mod feature, before a cluster of cautions from lap 6 to 9 kept the field bunched. On what was the final RESTART ON LAP 9, Kleinschmidt was leading the way with Jeff Schmuhl, Saunders, Jon Schultz, Tom Schneider and Colten Van Hierden lined up behind.
Kleinschm,idt suddenly pulled to the infield on lap 10 putting Saunders ini charge. He was running the top to perfection with Schmuhl Van Heirden and Schneider grouped behind. Van Heirden moved into second and right on the bumper of Saunders on the high side. The pair was evenly matched and Van Hierden needed to make a change so on lap 14, he started to make a run to the inside line. After a couple laps, he was able to make his machine stick and he took over the lead on lap 16. For the final 4 laps, he was able to pull away and record his third feature win of the season. Saunders took the runner up finish with Schmuhl right behind. Schneider won the late race battle with Kevin Bethke and Ryan Besaw to round out the top six places.
The Automotive Supply Company IMCA Modifieds put their field on the track with Dennis Schultz grabbing the top spot at the start, leading until the caution on lap 6. On the restart, Schultz brought the field to the green , but T.J. Smith and Marcus Yarie were both able to move by and one the next circuit, Yarie moved into the top spot and Steve Schneider pulled into the runner up spot and started to challenge the leader.
For the next few laps, Schneider tried inside and outside, even pulling alongside a couple of times, but could not make Yarie make a mistake. Smith was battling with Schultz whlte Tim Lemirande, Tim Robbins and Brian Brexler were in the mix behind.
The plot thicken as a final caution appeared with 2 laps remaining which put the entire pack right behind the leader. Yarie continued to set the pace with Robins making a furious charge over the final 2 laps. Yarie crossed the finish line to collect his first feature win of the season, with Robbins following right behind with bis best finish of the year. Schneider held the third place finish with Dan Roedl make the late race run to take fourth. Lemirande was fifth and Drexler nipped Smith for the top six position.
Tim Reichenberger took charge of the Gold Star Racing Products Grand National feature using the high groove to set the pace. Kenny Richards took a couple laps to break from the field and took the low groove to close in on the leader, and take the lead on lap 6. Once in front, Richards took off with his biggest challenge the rest of the way was a group of lapped cars over the final few laps. Richards drove off with his second straight feature trophy with dad, Larry Richards closing over the final laps to take second. Brian Vinney, Jr finished third with Terry Van Roy taking fourth. Nick Schumacher and T.J. Smith rounded out the top six.
Jeremy Kemnetz set the pace for the first three laps of the Outlaw Chassis Street Stock headliner before Frank Knaus took charge on lap 4. Dan Knaus took the runner up spot on lap 4 leaving a battle for third between a group of six cars. Patti Winkler, Jeff Wicinski, Steve Gawaresky, Jason Fairbank, Steve Ecker and Jeff Jungwirth made up the pack. A caution on lap 8 bunched the entire field with Frank and Dan Knaus still at the front of the field. Gawaresky, Wicinski, Patti Winkler, Jerry Wiunkler, Ecker, Jungwirth and Fairbank were in line. Gawaresky moved up on the inside lne to challenge for the lead on lap 12, was able to move alongside of Knaus, running the outside line, for the lead. Ecker was also making a charge and joined the lead battle. The trio staged a furious battle for the top spot over the final laps with Ecker making a final lap run stick as he claimed his third feature win of the season just ahead on Knaus at the line. Jungwirth also made a final lap charge to take third from Gawaresky. Wicinski and Dan Knaus rounded out the top six.

Cody Pankow made an opening lap charge that put him at the front of the Ellington Mutual Insurance Dirt Devil feature field and he opened up a lead on the field sorting out behind. John Stegner, Jason Roberts, Chris Maas, Scott Tiedt and Mitchell Lee Fairbank were behind. By the mid point of the race, Pankow was still holding a couple car length lead of Maas with Stegner. Joe Minks, Shaun Bangart and Wes Lungwitz were in a bunch behind.
Pankow was able to maintain a slight lead over Maas with Bangart finally moving just ahead of the pack to run third. A lone caution appeared on lap 17 which erased Pankows lead and put the entire pack right behind. Pankow and Maas set the pace for the restart, and Bangart took to the outside line and it was an even race at the white flag. Bangart pulled ahead on the final lap to collect he 4th feature win of the season. Maas also worked by for the runner up finish with Pankow taking third. Minks, Stegner and Aaron Milavitz rounded out the top six.
The SpeedZone will feature another full racing program next Friday Night and double up the weekend with the first appearance of the AMA Motorcycle races on Saturday.
