Third Time’s A Charm? ABC to Try to Open Saturday

Ashland, WI — For the second time in the past three years, the ABC Raceway will start its stock car racing season in June.
This Saturday night, the former WISSOTA Track of the Year and ARPY Regional Track of the Year award-winning facility hopes to host a full program of WISSOTA-sanctioned Modifieds, Super Stocks and Midwest Modifieds, as well as the track’s own Six-Cylinders and Pure Stocks, on its three-eights-mile red-clay oval south of Ashland.
The Ashland Area Chamber of Commerce and the Northern State Bank will be the presenting sponsors for the season-opening show, which has been postponed twice due to a racing surface that has not responded well to a weeks-long effort to prepare it for the 2015 season.

“Everyone has been anxious to get this season underway,” stated Raceway president Eric Erickson recently. “People here have been working very hard to get the track ready, and we think that once we get this season going we’ll have a great race track and a fun season for the drivers and the fans.”
Hometown drivers Steve Stuart (Mods), Tiffany Hudack (Sixes) and Matt Deragon (Pure Stocks) will be back to defend their 2014 titles, while Superior’s Scott Lawrence is expected to try to extend his track record of 11 straight Super Stock points titles and 14 championships overall at Ashland.
It will be interesting to see if defending ABC Mid-Mod track champ Mike Truscott of Chippewa Falls returns to race here on a full-time basis, as he has had a strong start to his 2015 campaign while competing at several area tracks.
Hot laps begin at 6:15 pm, and the first green flag of the season is scheduled to be thrown at 7. Adult tickets are just $10 each, and kids ages 12 and under admitted free with a paid adult admission. “Z-93 Race Night” will air Saturday on WBSZ, 93.3 FM, from 4:30-6 pm with up-to-date track news and weather information.
The ABC Raceway is located 3-1/2 miles south of Ashland on State Highway 13 and one mile west on Butterworth Road. For raceday information call (715) 682-4990, or log on to the track’s website, www.abcraceway.com.
