Eagle Valley Speedway Doubles Up
on June 1, 2015 at 4:27 pmJim Falls, Wisconsin (May 31, 2015) racing finally resumed at the Eagle Valley Speedway as previously rain had cancelled five nights and shortened another in the 2015 season. On the last day of May, the Valley was able to race their second event of the year. Miller Lite night including double features in all six classes including the EVS Hornets, EVS Pure Stocks, and the WISSOTA Poly Dome Dirt Track Series sanctioned Street Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Super Stocks, and Modifieds.
The May 03 make-up feature winners included Kevin Adams, Curt Myers, Shane Halopka, Danny Richards, George Richards, and Dan Prissel. The regular night features saw Curt Myers, Danny Richards, and George Richards double up and Matt Leer, Nick Koehler, Austin Berger each finding victory lane.
The make-up Modified feature was over quickly as front row starters Kevin Adams took the lead over Matt Leer and never looked back. Third running Mike Anderson and fourth place Mike Truscott both pulled off before the checkered flag.
The make-up Super Stock feature was paced by Curt Hazelton and Mark Stender as Stender took the initial lead. Mike Anderson and Curt Myers battled for second and made it three wide for the lead as Myers grabbed the point over Anderson and Stender. Anderson broke on the backstretch and rolled into the infield as Myers stretched his lead, dominating to the checkers over Stender and Hazelton.
The make-up Midwest Modified feature was lead to green by Collin Hazelton and Jake Smith as Smith grabbed the early lead. An intense battle for second ensued between the hard chargers of fifth starting Shane Halopka and seventh starting Grant Southworth. Soon the two made it a three wide battle for the lead. Contact between Smith and Southworth found Smith coming to a stop in turn two after appearing to have dropped a driveshaft and Southworth went to the work area with a flat tire. The restart was led by Halopka with ninth and eighth starting Kent Baxter and Nick Koehler directly behind. Five more laps of green flag racing had found Southworth up to fourth as Bob Wood broke down and brought out the yellow. In the dash to the finish, Southworth blasted to second, nearly catching the winner, Halopka. They were followed to the line by Koehler, Baxter, and John Feirn.
The make-up Street Stock feature pitted Sam Fankhauser and Danny Richards in the front row as they raced side by side for several laps with Fankhauser leading by a nose at the line. Richards slowly eased to the point and went on to win the nonstop event over Fankhauser, Travis Hazelton, Tyler Wahlstrom, and Mike Knutson.
The make-up Pure Stock feature found Stephan Hogue and Trent Barnhardt on the front row but the second row of Todd Roshell and George Richards ran one two after the first lap. A spinning Hogue brought out the only caution as Steve Cross wasn’t able to miss him, ending Cross’ night. Roshell continued on the restart to lead to the checkers over Richards but was later disqualified. Richards was scored the winner, Barnhardt had a nice run to second, Nicholas Hazelton, Hogue, and Wayne Braun rounded out the top five.
The make-up Hornet feature was led by Chuck Wald and Darrell Komro as Komro drove to the lead. Fourth starting Dan Prissel worked the high side and took over the point at the halfway mark of the race. They continued to the checkers closely together as Prissel won over Komro, last place starting Travis Hoff, Brent Hauge, and Chad Prissel.
The regular night of racing action pitted Mike Anderson and Matt Leer at the front of the Modified field for the feature. A bold move by Kevin Adams found them three wide in turn one as Anderson got squeezed out of the middle and Leer blasted to the lead on the high side. Jesse Glenz had a strong performance until he brought out the only yellow of the race rolling to a stop on the front stretch. Leer again controlled the restart as the top three scrapped the walls in the ultra-high groove. Leer went on to win, followed by Adams, Anderson, Jay Richardson, and last stating Kerry Halopka.
The Super Stock feature saw Mark Stender and Tommy Richards on the front row as fourth starting Curt Myers lead lap one and never looked back driving to a dominating victory. Richards settled into second, Stender third, as Mike Anderson and Eric Olson filled out the top five. With about five laps remaining, Anderson passed Sender for third for the only pass for position near the front after lap one.
The Midwest Modifieds were paced by Brad Seavers and Jake Smith as Seavers took the initial lead. On lap two, Shane Halopka raced to the point as he and Grant Southworth waged a several lap battle for the lead. A spinning Colin Hazelton brought out a caution just prior to the halfway point. Halopka restarted first with Southworth and Koehler in tow. Koehler moved into second and went to work on the leader as Halopka drove the bottom groove and Koehler high. Koehler found the lead and the field was reset due to a Josh Hessler caution. At the green, Koehler drove on to the victory as Truscott moved in to battle for second and briefly take the position over Halopka. However, Halopka recovered and they were followed to the line by Southworth and Smith.
The 12’s of Jay Kesan and Cody Kummer sat in the front row of the Street Stock feature as Sam Fankhauser immediately made it a three wide fight for the lead. A spinning Dalton Hazelton slowed the pace, but he regained his position on the restart. Kummer took the lead on the restart as Kesan and Fankhauser battled for second. Kesan gained the spot but seventh starting Danny Richards was making the low line work as he closed to fight for and eventually take second. Kummer and Richards began to put some distance on the field but just as Richards moved to the lead, Andrew Ausmann’s car went up in a tremendous amount of smoke making it impossible for drivers to see as they were bearing down on the dense fog. The caution came out and Kummer regained the lead for the restart. A wonderful side by side battle between Kummer and Richards began as Richards had a slight lead at the white flag and won by less than a car length at the checkered flag. Mike Knutson was able to overtake Fankhauser for third and Hunter VanGilder finished in fifth.
The Pure Stock feature had Nicholas Hazelton and Trent Barnhardt on the front row but the second row of Todd Roshell and George Richards ran first and second after one lap. A lap two crash sent Wayne Braun hard into the turn two wall and drew the red flag. On the restart, Roshell led, but was challenged heavily by Richards. As the two entered lap traffic Richards was pressing hard up high in turns three and four as Roshell made contact with the slower car going a lap down causing a caution. Roshell was relegated to the rear and Richards went on to win as he was unchallenged the remaining distance. Pat Smith finished second over Barnhardt, Duke Leu, and Bob Thompson.
Brent Hauge and Travis Hoff led the Hornets as a three wide battle began immediately for the lead with sixth starting Sean Svee taking the lead on lap two. A close call saw Svee high against the wall on the backstretch as the drivers went four wide for the lead. Damage to Svee’s car ended his night as Dan Prissel took the point. However, Prissel broke down in the lead. A hard crash brought out the red flag as Bill Wolf pounded the backstretch wall. He was unhurt and the racing action continued as Bob Seidler battled Austin Berger at the front as Berger won the fight and lead the last two laps to the checkers. Seidler, Komro, Leslie Leu, and Shane Lindseth followed him home.
The Eagle Valley Speedway will return to action on Sunday, May 07, 2015 as the Budweiser / Country Fest ticket giveaway brings six classes of cars to the track with the EVS Hornets, EVS Pure Stocks, and the WISSOTA Poly Dome Dirt Track Series sanctioned Street Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Super Stocks, and Modifieds.
