Photo-Finishes at TNT Motor Speedway
on May 24, 2015 at 8:05 amThis past Saturday Night feature after eature ended with TNT Motor Speedway Officials having to confer as to who should go to the NAPA Auto Parts Victory Lane. In one class, the wrong driver went to the Victory Lane!
In the WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature most of the race was a battle between the Upper Peninsula’s George Truscott and Jesse Aho. Both traded off the lead till the 17th lap, when Jerry Grasse brought his #5 car to the tussle.
Then Grasse and Aho went side by side to the finish line. It appeared that both were even at the line. Aho thought he won, so he headed to Victory Lane. After an extended discussion by the officials, it was decided that Grasse had passed the finish line first.
That wasn’t the only close race. In the Micro Sprint 600’s, Escanaba, Michigan’s Matt Peterson, and Rhinelander’s Jered Cech hit speeds of 90 MPH as they raced inches from each other,
“It didn’t matter where they were on the track, going into a corner, coming out of a corner, back stretch or front stretch, they were right next to each other,” commented Track promoter, Jamie Pooch.
The two crossed the finish line inches a part, and once again the officials had to confer. Getting the win was Peterson on his Yamaha propelled Micro Sprint 600.
The WISSOTA Street Stock Feature appeared to be a battle early on between Britt Broman of Eagle River and Bruce Crossing, Michigan’s, Jordan Kurtti. That is until Eagle River’s Ryan Glemmbin worked his way around Tomahawk’s Nate Langberg and Derek Eberl. Once Glembin cleared Langberg and Eberl, he put his sights on Kurtti and Broman. In the end, Broman held off Kurtti and Glembin for the win.
Feature after Feature had the crowd at TNT Motor Speedway at the edge of their seat. This included the highly competitive Pure Stock Class. The race started off with 3 cautions, all brought out by the car in the lead, and all happened when the cars spun out in between the 3rd and 4th turn,
“I started to think that I was jinxing the driver in the lead by announcing who was leading,” commented TNT Motor Speedway Track Announcer, Skip Schulz.
It was David Blackberg of Ewen that got the lead after all the cautions, and held on to get his first Pure Stock Feature win at TNT. The previous week’s winner, Tyler Lundberg of Tomahawk took a close second.
Staying with the flow of having exciting races was the TNT Pro Trucks. Earlier in the night, Jeff MacDonald ran away from the group by winning the Heat race. In the Feature, MacDonald started in the middle of the field. While McDonald was in a challenging battle with James Koga, Rhinelander’s Cory Allen appeared to be running away from the pack.
That is until McDonald got around Koga and started to close in on Allen. Fortunately for Allen, the race stayed ‘green,’ and he held off McDonald for the win.
Wausau’s Alysha Kreager held off Woodruff’s Hunter Tingley in an exciting Junior Sprint Heat AND Feature.
The close racing on Saturday Night even included the 2-car Stingers. Both drivers from Merrill put on a show of their own in the heat when Louis Malluege edged Zach Degner. In the feature, car problems sent Malluege to the pits and sent Degner to Victory Lane.
The night started off with Channel 12 News Reporter Matt Benz beat Coyote Radio’s Ben Merritt in a Celebrity Race. The two raced TNT Pro Trucks.
Exciting Stock Car Racing returns to the high banked one third mile track at TNT Motor Speedway this coming Saturday Night. TNT Motor Speedway is located south of Three Lakes on US 45. Hot Laps start at 6:30 CT.
