Shackelton Dominates Red Cedar Speedway
Menomonie, Wisconsin (May 22, 2015) Dick’s RV presented Military Night at the Races with the WISSOTA Poly Dome Dirt Track Series sanctioned Street Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Super Stocks, Modifieds, and Late Models along with the Kadinger Auto Salvage Pure Stocks and Value Implement Hornets. Feature winners included John Kaanta, Kevin Eder, Mike Anderson, Dave Shackelton, Hunter VanGilder, George Richards, and Jeremy Johnson.
The T.L. Sinz Plumbing Late Models had one heat with Jake Redetzke taking home the win. In the feature, John Kaanta drove out to the early lead and remained in front the entire race. Kaanta earned his first victory in 2015 in an orderly fashion as most racers hugged the tires and ran single file in the low groove. Rick Hanestad ran a solid second place and had closed the gap on the leader late in the event. Mike Prochnow, AJ Diemel, and Jake Redetzke filled out the top five. Mark Gerth drove home to a solid sixth place finish in Jimmy Mars’ car.
The Tim’s Automotive Modifieds heat winners included Steve Hallquist and Mark Hanson but it was pole sitter Kevin Eder who drove to the lead. Eder easily survived both early and late caution flags driving to the victory after a green, white, checkered restart which pitted Kevin Adams and Mike Anderson in a battle for second behind him. Earlier, a lap two caution saw Anderson go around in turn one as Brandon Jensen was charged with the foul. Shortly after the restart, Matt Leer spun in the same area and he was relegated to the rear. The race saw several green laps and found Eder checked out on the field. A late yellow flag flew for a spinning Robbie Johnson, setting up the two lap fight for runner up earned by Adams behind a dominant Eder. Mark Hanson drove home to fourth and David Baxter finished fifth.
Two Johnson Motors Super Stocks heats found Rick Hallquist and Eric Olson as winners. In the feature, the front row starting Hallquist lead early but was passed by Gunnar Watkins. Soon Mike Anderson flexed his muscle through the middle of the track as he drove to the point and into a large lead. Sixth starting Jason Forehand charged to second and was very fast in the late going, but Anderson, after splitting through three lapped cars on the back stretch in the last lap, maintained a solid gap for the win. Forehand, Watkins, Hallquist, and Jesse Redetzke were scored in the top five.
The Southworth Chevrolet Midwest Modifieds had three heat winners after Dave Shackelton scored and exciting hard charging victory in heat one and Jake Smith and Tanner Byholm won their respective events. The front row of Byholm and Shackelton led the field to green as Byholm drove to the lead and Shackelton set chase. On lap four, Shackelton powered to the lead but soon thereafter a multicar wreck in turn two damaged several cars. Shackelton was scored the leader and restarted on the point and drove to a solid lead which was erased by a spinning Ron Jablonski. Again on the restart, Shackelton took command and drove the remaining distance to a large lead and victory. An eleventh starting Shane Halopka made the high groove work as he finished third behind Jake Smith. Michael Truscott and Nick Koehler filled out the top five.
The Conrad’s Auto Salvage Street Stocks took to the track with heat winner Sam Fankhauser starting fourth as Adam Soltis and Hunter VanGilder lead the field to green. VanGilder took the lead and was pressured heavily by Soltis until the final circuit when Soltis momentarily pulled up lame on the backstretch. VanGilder made no costly mistakes and drove to the victory. Fankhauser finished second followed by Kummer, a recovering Soltis, and Noah Grinstead.
The Kadinger Auto Salvage Pure Stock heat winner Kent Harmon started outside of Ron Hoffman and took the early lead. However, third starting George Richards was unbeatable in the middle groove as he drove to the lead and away for the victory. With three laps remaining, Jesse Bryan secured second over Harmon. Jason Hovel drove to fourth and Jeff Tisdale to fifth at the finish.
The Value Implement Hornets have claimed their own community in the pits with 17 cars and heats were won by Jeremy Johnson and Darrel Komro. Pole sitter William Voeltz was flanked by Komro as Voeltz found the early lead as Komro pounded the backstretch wall. On the start of lap two, Travis Sandley rolled multiple times in turn one bringing out a red flag. Sandley was unhurt, but his car appeared destroyed. After a long clean up, the race resumed and Jeremy Johnson found the lead but the yellow flew again as Zack Hinshaw broke down and couldn’t get off the raceway. The race was restarted with a green, white, checkered finish as Johnson won yet another feature followed by Robert Seidler, Voeltz, Leslie Jackson, and Bradley York.
Red Cedar Speedway returns to racing action on Friday, May 29, 2015 as Dean & Sue’s Bar & Grill sponsors MDA Fill the Boot Night at the Races and the WISSOTA Poly Dome Dirt Track Series sanctioned Street Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Super Stocks, Modifieds, and Late Models along with the Kadinger Auto Salvage Pure Stocks and Value Implement Hornets.
