Track Conditions Not Favorable; ABC Raceway Opener Cancelled

Ashland, WI, May 23 — Despite weeks of effort and hundreds of man-hours of track preparation, the racing surface of the ABC Raceway has not cooperated and will not be ready for the scheduled 2015 season opener, forcing the Raceway staff to cancel this Saturday’s event.
Over 900 yards of fresh red clay were added to and worked into the track surface within a week after last September’s Red Clay Classic. However, the wet spring thus far has not helped bring all of the frost out from under the track, resulting in a very soft surface that has not hardened despite taking a pounding from several hundred laps turned with dozers and other heavy equipment.

The staff of the ABC Raceway will attempt to kick off its 2015 stock car racing season on Saturday, May 30, with a full night of exciting stock-car racing action with all five classes – WISSOTA-sanctioned Modifieds, Super Stocks and Midwest Modifieds, plus the track’s own Pure Stocks and Six-Cylinders – presented by the Northern State Bank. In addition, the track will honor those who have served or are currently serving our nation with a salute to our Armed Forces, presented by the Ashland Chamber of Commerce.
Hot laps begin at 6:15 pm, and the first green flag of the night is scheduled to be thrown at 7. Adult tickets are just $10 each, and kids ages 12 and under are welcome for free with a paid adult admission. “Z-93 Race Night” will air Saturday on WBSZ, 93.3 FM, from 4:30-6 pm with up-to-date track news and weather information.
The ABC Raceway is located 3-1/2 miles south of Ashland on State Highway 13 and one mile west on Butterworth Road. For raceday information call (715) 682-4990, or log on to the track’s website, www.abcraceway.com.
