“HOT ROD” RETURNS TO VICTORY LANE / MOEDE CLAIMS BOUNTY AT THE HILL
(Sturgeon Bay, WI) May 16, 2015 Results- “Hot Rod” Snellenberger capitalized on a late race restart to score the victory in the IMCA Stock Cars at Thunderhill Raceway. Other feature winners were Todd Dart (IMCA Modified), Bernie Reinhardt (IMCA Sport Mod), Marcus Moede (IMCA Hobby Stock), Billy LeMieux (Street Stock).
Next Saturday, May 23 the IMCA Stock Cars will be racing for $1000 to win.
A field of 18 IMCA Stock Cars took to the track to do battle. John Anschutz and Tom Brumlic battled for the lead until lap 5. That’s when Jamie Suchocki came cruising by for the top spot. Rod Snellenberger quickly made his way from row 4, to the runner up and began to pressure Suchocki. Snellenberger was glued to the leaders back bumper. A caution with 5 laps remaining changed everything. With Suchocki running perfect down low, Snellenberger chose to restart up top. As the green flew Snellenberger got a great restart pulling past Suchocki, taking the lead. “Hot Rod” never looked back racing to his first win at the Hill in 2015. Suchocki scored his best finish of the young season with second, Dave Bouche rallied late to place third, Billy LeMieux and John Anschutz completed the top five.
After 3 feature wins in a row, a $100 bounty was put up for anyone who could beat Dave Schmidt in the IMCA Hobby Stocks. Teams were very eager to take their shot! Marcus Moede moved past CJ Weckler for the lead on lap 4. Schmidt raced to second and began to close in as Moede searched high and low for more traction. Just past the midway point Schmidt caught the leader and pulled high to make the pass in turn 3. Schmidt slipped a little too high on corner entry, which resulted in a spin down the track and through the infield grass. Schmidt continued under green but fell back to last. Moede cruised to victory. Amber Weidner continued her strong season with a second, Ford Malvitz, Eric Micolichek and Travis Lumaye rounded out the top five. With the win Moede also took over the point lead.
After only missing one week of racing to assemble a new car, Tyler Hackett paced the early laps of the IMCA Modified feature in his Madman Chassis. A series of cautions kept the field close. Todd Dart executed quick passes to challenge Hackett. Dart took the low groove and raced past Hackett but a caution wiped the pass away. On the restart Hackett jumped low to block Dart’s advances. Dart switched up his strategy, moved to the high groove and made the pass on Hackett. Dart dominated the remainder of the event. Greg Gretz was able to work by Hackett late to place second, Eric Arneson was fourth and Mark Vankauwenberg in his first visit of the season was fifth.
Bernie Reinhardt led every lap of the IMCA Sport Mod feature to score his first win of the season. Tom Stark closed in late but ran out of time and had to settle for second. Title contenders Randy LeMieux Jr. and Chris Budzban were third and fourth. Vince Engebregtsen won a late race battle to place fifth.
Billy LeMieux got rid of his bad luck, scoring a clean sweep in the Street Stocks, Phil Faustini dogged LeMieux the entire race but was never able to make the pass. James Dahlstrom clings to a 1 point lead with a third place finish, Ryan Manthie in his first visit was fourth and Jimmy Anderson was fifth.
