Eagle River Speedway opens season
Under threatening skies, Eagle River Speedway opened their 41st season, and they did it in an exciting fashion. 2 of the features saw bumper to bumper battles for the lead from the 1st lap to the end. 1 of the features saw a driver hit the wall at speeds close to 80 MPH!
It was in the WISSOTA Midwest Modified Feature that Rib Lake’s Brad Seavers was in a tight battle with Chippewa Falls, Michael Truscott. Before Truscott could get on the bumper of Seaversm he was in a 3 way battle with his Uncle, George Truscott, and his Brother N Law, Jesse Aho. It was in the 8th lap that Michael Truscott broke free from George (Truscott) and Aho. Then it took (Michael) Truscott a couple laps to catch up to Seavers. Then Truscott was on the bumper of Seavers for the next six laps. With four laps to go, Truscott finally got around Seavers and went on to take the Checkered Flag. Truscott, one of the top drivers in the nation, also won the Heat Race.
The fans may have thought it was Déjà vu in the Pure Stock Feature. Tomahawk’s CJ Hedges got on the tail of Don Scharf from the first lap till the 11th lap. Hedges tried every line he could to get around the experienced Scharf. Then with 4 laps to go, Hedges went to the outside of Sharf on the hairpin 3rd turn to get the lead. Hedges went on to win the feature, after taking the earlier Heat race.
It was in the Micro Sprint 600 Feature that Woodruff’s Fred Suchy hit the wall coming out of the 3rd turn. Suchy hit the wall at a speed of over 80 MPH. The heavily damaged car ended up on it’s roof. Suchy escaped serious injury. Antigo’s Jake Reif won the feature, and held off Suchy to win the Heat Race.
Tomahawk’s Nate Langberg swept the WISSOTA Street Stock class, winning both the Feature and the Heat. Eagle River’s Tommi Jo Springer won both the feature and the heat in the Junior Sprints.
Stock Car racing returns to the challenging one third mile tri-oval this coming Friday Night. Hot laps start at 7:00 pm CT, with racing to start at 7:30 pm.
