BOB TIMM FINALLY REVISITS MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY VICTORY LANE
CRAPSER, HOFER, MYERS, & WOHLETZ ALSO GRAB FEATURE WINS
Fountain City, WI (MAY 8th, 2015) – After spending all day on the dirt track trying to whip MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY into race ready condition following a week of heavy rains, Bob Timm ended the evening sitting on an area of the facility which needed no grooming, no drying and no packing. A 10 x 30 foot piece of concrete which could be rained on 24 hours straight and still support a race car; the MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY Victory Lane!
Rains through the entire week had many thinking that MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY might not even see a green flag Friday evening May 8th, but Timm and his track crew got to work as soon as possible after the rains ended to insure that racers and fans alike could enjoy another night of dirt track action, “We’ve been working the track all day trying to get it into shape”, smiled Timm in Victory Lane, “honestly, there was a short time earlier today when we weren’t even sure if we’d be racing tonight. But with the great crew we have here, and a whole lot of equipment, we worked all day to get the track ready for racing tonight.”
After spending all day on the track with heavy equipment, Timm then spent the evening on the track with his Oak Ridge Fabrication #49 USRA Modified and enjoyed something which has mysteriously eluded him for a while – a visit to his own Victory Lane, “You know, after more than 200 feature wins in my career I never thought it would take this long to get another one,” said Timm after pulling away from the likes of Brent Larson, and heat race winners Lucas Schott and Joel Alberts to collect the win, “Almost 2 years, But it’s great to be back!”
CRAPSER MAKES IT TWO IN A ROW
For the second week in a row Chippewa Falls, WI’s Cory Crapser showed the competition the back of his #07 and ended up speaking with the fans from Victory Lane. After 31 cars had battled through four heat races and a B-Main it came down to the opening night feature winner putting in another dominant display on the track to cap the evening. Crapser started from the front row and immediately pulled away from the pack to set up a huge lead; a caution just past the mid-way point of the 18-lap feature allowed Brandon Hare and the rest of the field to restart right behind Crapser and allow the fans the opportunity to see if anyone could battle the leader for the top spot . . . but such was not to be the case.
Crapser pulled out to another lead while Hare’s tires glossed over allowing others to pass his #56H as it faded to a fifth place finish.
Heat race winners Parker Hale and Dan Hovden battled to second and fourth place finishes respectively with Jon Van Minsel racing beneath the checkered flag between them in third.
HOFER COLLECTS LATE MODEL FEATURE WIN
After making a setup change that didn’t work on Opening Night, Cochrane, WI’s Lance Hofer made the perfect adjustments on evening number two of the 2015 season in order to race his #11 USRA Limited Late Model straight into Victory Lane. Almost exactly one year to the date after picking up his very first USRA Modified feature win, Hofer was celebrating with his first USRA Limited Late Model feature win!
In an all new division which is still attempting to grow to car counts which all feel are on the way, Hofer battled through several cautions and challenges from the rest of the field to acquire the win.
What the green-flag action showed is that the new Limited Late Models can give the fans side-by-side battles for position, changes at the front of the pack, and edge-of-your-seat excitement!
Pole Sitter Quinn Arnoldy leapt to the early lead of the 20-lap feature, holding off challenges from Cody Gardner and heat-race winners Justin Sass and Troy Hovey before Hofer was able to work through the battles, take the lead and race on to the victory.
MYERS BACK IN VICTORY LANE AFTER OPENING NIGHT MECHANICAL TROUBLES
On opening night, Curt Myers barely completed a couple laps of his heat race before a mechanical failure sidelined his #1M. This Friday, Myers was back to restart the dominance he’d shown in 2014 at MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY, putting together a “clean sweep” – winning both the evening’s first WISSOTA Super Stock heat-race as well as the evening’s 20-lap feature.
“Yeah, last week it was a distributor that broke and ended our night early”, said Myers in Victory Lane, after racing from his starting spot outside the fourth row to the front of the field to win the feature, “Tonight we made sure that didn’t happen again.”
Myers worked through the field like a master, making passes for position down low, through the middle and finally right up against the cushion at the top of the banking; all the while showing a smooth finesse that allowed him to set up shop at the front and race on to an almost 3 second lead over second place finishing Tommy Richards.
Jay Oricchio and Jeff Brauer finished third and fifth, respectively, with opening night feature winner Dan Nissalke finishing between them in fourth.
WOHLETZ BREAKS WINLESS STREAK WITH 600 MOD WIN
After a 2012 MTS Track Championship with his #32 redbox+ 600 Mod, Winona, MN’s Greg Wohletz raced through a strong, yet winless 2014. Opening night 2015 saw Wohletz enjoy a trip to victory lane – but as a car owner of Chris Gilbertson’s #4G . . . not as a driver.
Evening number two of 2015 finally allowed Wohletz to race his way to another feature win. “You know last week was good”, said Wohletz in Victory Lane with a smile on his face, “finishing second to Chris in another car I own – it was good seeing him win – but this is better!”
600 Mod hot shoe Kyle Jumbeck raced strong to a second place finish behind Wohletz but it was Caledonia, MN’s John Griffin who attracted a lot of attention as he raced his #K-9 entry from deep in the field – starting inside the fifth row – to an impressive third place finish ahead of Gilbertson and MTS new-comer Troy Soiney.
BECKER AND WOLFE WIN SPORTSMAN AND HORNET FEATURES
Jordan Becker held off challenges from Steve Dwyer and Jeremy Oakes to grab his first feature win of 2015 in the new MTS Sportsman division. “Worked on this car hard through the winter”, said Becker in Victory Lane, “and then had motor issues on opening weekend. After all that work, it feels great to be here with a win!”
Wisconsin’s Bill Wolfe took advantage of opening night feature winner Johnny Severtson’s mechanical failure and then raced through a three car battle for the lead to win his first Hornet feature, “This is my first night on the track, first night on dirt”, smiled Wolfe in Victory Lane, “Best night ever!”
Sandy Pomery, Hunter Nelson and Fletcher Milene rounded out the top four at the checkered flag.
