Kilgore Wards off Whitman to Capture $1,210 in IMCA Modifieds at 141 Speedway
(Francis Creek, WI)- Two past champions played a game of cat and mouse in front of a stellar field to figure out who would take home the IMCA Modified top prize of $1000.00 on Saturday Night.
The man leading the field at the checkered flag was Shawn Kilgore and the man trailing was defending champion Johnny Whitman.
Feature winners in the other respective divisions included: Kyle Frederick(IMCA Stockcars) Ryan Lemieux(IMCA Sportmods) Charlie Sancinati(Grand Nationals) Mike Conard(Street Stocks) and Brandon Kaye(IMCA Sport Compacts)
Shawn Kilgore would make quick work of pole sitter Brad Theys in the opening corners to start the IMCA Modified Feature. Kilgore would work up top while Johnny Whitman used a three-wide pass to make his way to second on the second lap. Kilgore had a five car length lead that Whitman ate up by lap 11. Whitman proceeded to try different lines to pass the leader. Whitman found bite down low but Kilgore fended him off. The next lap Kilgore went to the bottom of the track. The final laps saw Whitman try different lines to get around Kilgore but to no avail. Kilgore lead Whitman passed the finish line nose to tail. Kilgore collected $1,210 as he won the $1000 feature with the $10 per lap led. Mike Mullen drove to a third place finish in front of Jay Matthias and Eric Mahlik.
A wild IMCA Stockcar Feature would start out with Josh Mroczkowski leading the field after the first circuit from his third starting spot. Bret Koehler would make his way from 11th to third in three laps and move inside of both Snellenberger and Mroczkowski for the lead. Snellenberger would pressure Koehler and contact between the two would allow Luke Lemmens to grab the lead. Koehler would spin a lap later causing a caution. On the first lap of the restart, Snellenberger would make contact with Lemmens in turn three with Lemmens being turned sideways. He came back underneath Snellenberger and contact would send Snellenberger on his roof and Lemmens to the pits for rough driving. Kyle Frederick was the next leader and had to fight off both Rick Mahlberg and John Heinz in the waning laps. Frederick stood up to the challenge and picked up his first win of the season. Mahlberg finished second after starting 17th. Heinz came back to finish third after restarting dead last in an early caution. Jeremy Jauquet and Rob Waechter rounded out the top five.
Ryan Lemieux stayed as cool as the other side of the pillow for all 20 laps of the IMCA Sportmod Feature. Lemieux started on the pole after the original pole sitter could not make the call for the race. Lemieux led through a series of cautions mid race but was never challenged in winning his second straight main event. Travis Arenz started in the 10th spot and worked his way to second via a three-wide pass. Arenz couldn’t mount a charge and finished second in front of Kevin Bethke. Mike Dauphinais raced his way to fourth after starting 16th. J.J. Anderson finished in the fifth position.
Evan Beattie led the opening lap of the Brian Peterson Builder’s Grand National Feature before giving way to Terry Van Roy on lap two. Charlie Sancinati worked his way from 13th to third by lap three. Dan Schumacher would charge passed the leader with Sancinati in tow. Kodi Wirtz would start 18th and make his way to fourth by lap five. A series of Cautions kept everyone close. Sancinati used the second to last restart to grab the lead and leave the battle behind him. Sancinati would pull away late in the race for his second straight win. Schumacher beat Wirtz to the line for second. Van Roy hung onto fourth with Aaron Stolp riding the high line to fifth.
Josh Novak was the man to beat for the first half of the Krajinek Chevrolet Street Stock Feature presented by Quietwoods RV Sales. Novak would lead the field with Mike Conard patiently waiting in the shadows. Novak would finally slip out of turn four and Conard moved into the lead with Shawn Haydon near. A series of cautions mid-race would slow the pace. Conard kept the field in the fake rear view mirror and pulled away for his first win of the season. Haydon, the defending champion finished second with point leader Kraig Koehler third. Jerry Winkler finished fourth with Josh McDonald p5.
Brandon Kaye dominated the IMCA Sport Compact main Event. He grabbed the lead early from his sixth starting spot and was never challenged. He picked up the win and the clean sweep on the evening after also winning his heat. Roger Braun, Brad LeClair, Jacob Walters and Dustin Delveaux also were in the top five.
