BUDZO & THE BULLDOZER MAKE LATE RACE PASSES TO WIN AT THUNDERHILL
on May 3, 2015 at 3:08 am(Sturgeon Bay, WI) May 1, 2015 Results- Defending IMCA Stock Car champ Dave “The Bulldozer” Bouche used a late race restart to steal the victory away from Billy LeMieux by inches at Thunderhill Raceway. Other feature winners were, Eric Arneson (IMCA Modified), Chris Budzban (IMCA Sport Mod), Dave Schmidt (IMCA Hobby Stock), Phil Faustini (Street Stock) and Nathan Delsart (Thunder Truck)
Billy LeMieux leapt from his front row starting spot to the lead early in the IMCA Stock Car headliner. Evan Madden hustled to the runner-up spot and began to put heavy pressure on LeMieux. At the midway point Madden worked the low groove pulling even with the leader. LeMieux was able to keep his momentum up just enough to hold off Madden each lap. Madden encountered trouble in turn 2, clipping the infield tire causing his car to come to a halt, bringing out the caution with 4 laps remaining.
Dave Bouche used this to his advantage as the green flag few, diving under LeMieux. The duo raced door to door coming to the checker with Bouche nipping LeMieux at the line by narrowest of margins. Rod Snellenberger was third, Jamie Suchocki fourth and Tony Bouche completed the top five. Dave was awarded an extra $200 for the win courtesy of Jet Finishing and Woodwork of Sturgeon Bay.
The “Wild Thing” IMCA Hobby Stocks lived up to their name as Travis Lumaye lead the opening lap of the feature before succumbing to mechanical gremlins, handing the lead over to Dean Anhalt. Dave Schmidt and Marcus Moede became locked in a two wide battle for second. Schmidt and Moede began to catch Anhalt. With 3 laps remaining the duo were hot on the heels of the leader. Anhalt got loose out of turn 4 as Moede and Schmidt came blasting through. Like a cue ball hitting a fresh rack, Anhalt’s car went spinning into the turn one wall, drawing a caution.
Moede inherited the lead. Schmidt went to work on the restart pulling along side the leader. As the white flag flew Moede’s machine began to shed parts and pour steam from under the flapping hood. Moede held strong but as the checker flew, Schmidt was able to find a little more grip out of turn 4, taking the win by a nose. Amber Weidner came home third after picking up her first career heat win earlier in the night, Eric Micolichek fourth and Anhalt was able to salvage a fifth.
In IMCA Sport Mod action, rookie Vince Engebregtsen set a blistering pace early on pulling away from the field. Bernie Reinhardt and Chris Budzban raced side by side for the runner up spot. A caution with 5 laps remaining erased a sizable advantage for Engebregtsen. On the restart Budzban went to work down low, muscling his way past Engebregtsen for the lead. “Budzo” never looked back, cruising to the win. Reinhardt was able to slip by for second, Engebregtsen had to settle for third, Randy LeMieux Jr. and Cody Rass rounded out the top five.
Eric “Chummy” Arneson led all 18 laps en route to a clean sweep in the IMCA Modifieds. Todd Dart was able to cut into Arneson’s straight away advantage but never got the caution he need to challenge, resulting in a second place finish. Greg Gretz was third, Tyler Hackett fourth and Tyler DeBouche was fifth.
Billy LeMieux once again looked like the driver to beat in the Street Stocks until his car went up in smoke on lap 8. Phil Faustini inherited the top spot and cruised to the feature win. Last weeks winner James Dahlstrom was second, Jimmy Anderson, Dennis Weidner and Josh Massart rounded out the top five.
