Rice Lake Speedway Set To Open April 18th
on April 13, 2015 at 10:58 amRice Lake WI – The sixty third consecutive year of dirt track auto racing in Rice Lake is set to begin this Saturday, April 18th as the Rice Lake Speedway will start off the 2015 racing season.
After the recently completed successful car show, the dirt track racing season will begin this week. As of Monday morning, track co-owner Dave Adams reported that the season should begin this Saturday, unless some unforeseen circumstances occur.
“The weather looks good for this week, so we have every intention of starting off the season on Saturday night,” reported Adams. “To be on the safe side, fans should check our website or face book page later in the week, or give me a call, but at this point we have every intention of starting this Saturday.”
No changes are planned to the racing program which will see drivers in five divisions again take the green flag for racing action. WISSOTA sanctioned modifieds, super stocks, Midwest modifieds and street stocks along with the Rice Lake pure stocks will again race in weekly competition. All five point champions from 2014 including Mark Hessler, Willie Johnsen Jr., Shane Halopka, Ron Hanestad and Jason Havel are expected to be on hand Saturday night and a unusually high number of new and returning drivers are expected to hit the track also.
Prior to the opener, drivers will have two opportunities to test our their race cars before the season begins as practice sessions are slated for both Wednesday and Thursday night of this week, with practice slated from approximately six to nine p.m. both nights.
Besides a strong slate of regular Saturday night shows, a number of special events are sprinkled throughout the racing season that will include visits by the sprint cars, fireworks on July 2nd, midweek shows that will replace racing during the Auqafest and the Barron County Fair and a year ending special on Labor Day weekend and of course, the national famous street stock Little Dream race in August.
The first special event on the schedule will be the annual visit by the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS), on Thursday night, May 14th that will see some of the fastest and best modified drivers in the country battle it out with the area drivers for a $3,000 top prize check with Midwest modifieds also on the card.
Judging for the Best Appearing Cars will take place on opening night with the winners to be announced the following week.
