SpeedZone Banquet Report

Oshkosh, October 25- The Oshkosh SpeedZone Raceway officially closed the books on their 2014 season with their annual awards dinner on Saturday night, October 25 at the Westward Ho banquet hall.

A full house watched as over 70 trophies and awards along with the track point fund were handed out.

The Ellington Mutual Insurance Dirt Devil division crowned a first time champion this season. Shaun Bangart rode a division high 5 feature wins to claim his first career title by a mere three points over Kasey Gross. Three time and defending champion, Jason Fairbank , claimed third place in the standings followed by Erik Kollmann and Joe Minks. Rounding out the top 10 were Cody Pankow, Mitchell Lee Fairbank, Alex Seidl, Trevor Spaulding and Christopher Maas.

Cody Pankow was the Rookie of the year.

Jerry Winkler walked off with his second Outlaw Chassis Street Stock track championship, his first since 2007. He won three features during the season but finished out of the top 5 only four times this season to take the title by a big 30 point margin over Mark Schultz. Steve Gawaresky took the third place trophy with Jeff Jungwirth and Patty Winkler rounding out the top five. Filling in the top 10 were Frank Knaus, Steve Ecker, Dan Knaus, Lexii Ashcraft and Jeff Wicinski.

Rookie of the year went to Steve Ecker.

Charlie Sancinati became the 11th different track champion in the Gold Star Racing Supplies Grand National division. Charlie collected one feature win here but was consistent, finishing in the top 5, in 9 of the 14 features run. The final point night determined the champion and Sancinati took the title by a mere 2 points over Jeff Richards. Defending champion, Larry Richards took 3rd overall with Terry Van Roy and Tom Schneider rounding out the top 5. Only 9 points separated the top four in the final standings. Filling out the top 10 were Tim Reichenberger, Brian Henry, John Schultz III, Derek Schrauth and Don Schumacher.

The IMCA Sport Mod division saw Steve Schneider and Ryan Besaw end up tied at the top of the standings at the end of the season. But, Schneider earned his first career title by winning 5 features during the season with Besaw taking one. Schneider became the fourth different title holder since the division became weekly in 2011. 2015 will see another first time champ as Schneider announced he is moving into the Modified division next season. Jon Schultz took third with Brock Saunders and Cory Wegner making the top five. Jeffrey Schmuhl, Adam Peschek, Branna Ambroziak, Scott Howe and Colten Van Hierden round out the top 10.

Brianna Ambroziak earned the 2015 Rookie of the year award.

The Total Power Sales IMCA Stock Cars returned to weekly competition for the first time since 2000, and John Heinz used three feature wins and consistency, 13 out of 14 races in the top five, to earn his first ever SpeedZone track title. Larry Karcz, Jr took second, only 4 points behind Heinz. Travis Van Straten took second with a division high 5 feature wins on the season. Dylan Heilmann and David Hoerning made the top five. Justin Jacobsen, Randy Schimmel, Robert Meiers, Cody Scray and Larry Parshen rounded out the top 10.

Rookie of the Year award went to Randy Schimmel.

Defending Automotive Supply Company IMCA Modified Champion, Shawn Jerovetz, claimed his second straight title running to 2 feature wins, but was consistently a front runner. Out of 15 features he was in the top 5, 11 times and 14 in the top 10. Mike Wedelstadt took the runner up honors in the standings with Brian Drexler, Jeremy Christians and Ed Lemay in the top five. T.J. Smith, Eddie Muenster, Jerry Muenster, Chris Engles and Dan Roedl round out the top 10. Jerovetz becomes only the third driver in 16 seasons to win back to back titles.

Rookie of the year went to Josh Zdroik.

The 2014 season was just closed , anticipation is very high for the unveiled 2015 schedule.

The first race of a very ambitious month of May, will be on Friday May 1.

The IRA Sprint Cars will be making the first of 2 appearances on Friday May 8.

The following week, May 15, will bring the Lucas Oil Late Model series to the SpeedZone for the first time. The IMCA Modifieds will kick off their Triple Crown Series this night as well. The Street Stocks will also be on the big program.

Friday June 19 will bring the IRA Sprint Cars back for the final time in 2015. The second leg of the IMCA Modified Triple Crown Series will take place.

Friday July 31 will be the annual Walk of Fame night.

The only off night race will be on Tuesday August 4 to open the County Fair.

Friday August 21 will be the return of the Corn Belt Clash/ George Scheffler Memorial Late Model

Special. It will also be the final leg of the IMCA Modified Triple Crown Series.

The AMA Motorcycles will return twice in 2015, the first on Saturday night June 29 and the final on Saturday August 29.

The final regular season race will be on Friday September 4.

The 2015 SpeedZone Fall Classic will take place on Friday and Saturday, September 25 and 26, to close the season.
