Seymour August 31 Results

Seymour- August 31- It was a fantastic night for racing Sunday night at the Seymour Speedway. Warm, clear skies with a slight breeze. Track smooth and fast, great crowd and full field of cars in each division. It all came together as the best way to end the 2014 point races on the 1/3 mile banked clay oval, with plenty of multi row, three and four wide racing in all the divisions.

Swinkles trucking was the title sponsor for the evenings activities.

The Coors Light IMCA Stock Cars started the feature portion of the program with 20 cars on the grid. David Hoerning took the initial lead and after a spin on lap 3, Kyle Frederick moved up to challenge for the lead. Frederick was hooked up outside and for the next few laps, ran side by side with Hoerning for the lead finally taking charge on lap 7. Barry Van Straten, Shawn Wagner and Travis Van Straten all moved to the front and it was a free for all for the lead. Frederick had his rear bumper on target holding back the three drivers as they swapped positions back and forth while trying to take the top spot from Frederick.

A final caution on lap 13 set up a 7 lap dash. Frederick continued to set the p[ace and the battle resumed between Barry Van Straten, Wagner, Travis Van Straten, point leader, Rod Snellenberger and Hoerning all vying for second place.

Travis Van Straten was on a mission after the resatart and by lap 17 was in second place and challenging Frederick. As the field came to the white flag, Van Straten was able to get to the inside of the leader and it was a drag race over the final lap to decide the outcome. Out of the final turn, Van Straten was able to nose ahead and took his 4th feature victory of the season. Frederick was less than a half car length back in second. Wagner took third over Barry Van Straten. Rod Snellenberger missed his 200th feature win, but finished 5th to earn the track championship, his 6th at Seymour. Jeremy Wiitala rounded out the top six.

The IMCA Sport Mods were up next with Kevin Bethke taking the lead on the start, but 2014 track champion, Jeremy Cota swept into the top spot on the second circuit and set out to leave the race for second place. Beau Handschke, Bethke, Bruce Belland and Dennis Meisler were grouped together and ran bunched until a lone caution on lap 13 erased Cota’s lead and put the field tight behind.

Cota again took off on the restart with the battle for second renewing as well. Handschke, Belland, Meisler and Nick Schultz tied each other up allowing Cota to run alone to collect his 5th feature win and put an exclamation point on his 1st career track championship. The race for second went to the wire as with Handschke taking the runner up finish edging Belland. Meisler, Schultz, making his first visit to Seymour and Bethke rounded out the top six.

The Turbo Blue Street Stocks Entered the track with the closest point battle of the night and a bit of drama before the race and during.

Point leader, Ryan Blank, had a 1 point lead over Jeff Jungwirth entering the night. Jungwirth had mechanical problems in his heat and had to find a back up for the main. Step up defending division champ, Jon Ashcraft, not in the point hunt, and gave up his ride so Jungwirth could make a run at the title.

When the race took the green, Blank, anxious to get a good start, jumped a position and would be docked 2 spots on the first caution, or the end of the race. Jeff Dorschner took the lead for the first 2 laps before Lexii Ashcraft nosed ahead on lap 3. Patty Winkler, one of the four title contenders, followed into second and was the leader as the next lap was completed. Winkler took off and pulled away from the field leaving Ashcraft, Alan Schlueter, the other point player, Dorschner, Jerry Winkler, Blank and Jungwirth to sort out behind. The battle for second quickly took all the attention as the group buched, side by side, three wide and bumper to bumper in a crowd pleasing battle. By lap 5, Jungwirth was right behind blank waiting for a break when his borrowed car suddenly started to belch smoke. Two laps later, Jungwirth pulled out of the race, leaving Blank to try to get through the pack, not knowing about the penalty and with the other point cars ahead of him.

The second place scrum continued and Winkler just ran alone out front and had to deal with lapped traffic over the final 5 laps. As the race went non stop. Winkler collected her first feature win of the season over a ¼ lap ahead of the bunch for second. Schlueter was able to gain the advantage and took second place with Ashcraft holding off Jerry Winkler for third. Blank crossed in fourth but would be placed in sixth. Jerry Winkler and Dorschner would be fourth and fifth,

Even with the penalty, Blank took his first career track title by six points, 555-549, with Jungwirth still taking second. Schlueter was 2 points back in third in the final tally with Patty Winkler ending up in fourth 1 behind Schlueter. The top 4 spots were separated by 9 points total for one of the tightest chases in club history.

The Budweiser IMCA Modifieds were next with 22 cars on the track, and with no point pressure for the title, it was an all out race throughout the field. John Berna took the lead at the srat followed by T.J. Smith, Jay Matthias, Mark Joski, Eric Arneson, point champion Jason Czarapata, Eric Mullen and winner of the last 2 features, Benji LaCrosse.

LaCrosse was the big mover, using multiple lanes to work from the mid pack to the front, taking the lead from Berna on lap 8. Once in front, LaCrosse pulled Away leaving the run for second. Matthias moved into the runner up spot on 10, but Berna stayed with him with Mahlik, Mike Mullen and Czarapata joining the fun.

Over the final 5 laps, LaCrosse, in his third visit this season, had to weave through lapped traffic but ran to his third straight feature win. Matthias was able to edge Berna for the second place finish. Czarapata was able to wrestle fourth away from Mahlik and Mullen rounded out the top six.

Czarapata was the 2 time defending champion and had the track championship locked up entering the night. He joins Banji LaCrosse as the only 2 Modified drivers to with three straight track titles at Seymour.

The 4 Cylinders took the track with Jeremy Czarapata moving up from the second row to the lead on the opening lap. Following a lap 3 caution, Czarapata again set the pace with Rachel Czarapata, Brad Prahl, Harley Diedrick and Kasey Gross behind. Jeremy set the pace and pulled away from the field as the pack tried to sort out behind. Gross was able to work to the runner up spot on lap 11 and set out to catch the leader. Czarapata had built a big enough margin, so Gross ran out of time to mount a serious challenge at the finish collecting his third straight and 4th feature win of the season. Brian Johnson edged Rachel Czarapata for third with Prahl and Cody Pankow rounding out the top six.

Cody and Tyler Hungerford were atop the standings entering the race separated by 14 points. Tyler ran up from while Cody was caught in the back and did not take any chances. Cody secured his first career title finishing 11th white Tyler placed 8th making the final margin 553-542.

The final Spectator Eliminator event of the year went to Joel Schmidt.

All race winners tonight also received trophies from track announcer, Steve Parsons, in Memory of his daughter, Kim, and to promote Organ and Tissue donations.

This was the final regular season race at the Seymour Speedway, BUT, one event remains on the schedule.

This SATURDAY, September 6, there is an added race as a way to give all the drivers and fans NOT going to Boone a chance to get one more race in before the Fall Specials start. With no other local track running this next week, the club felt they could run one more night.

It will be an open show for the 5 regular weekly divisions.

Races will be lined up by draw-redraw format. Regular payoff and admissions will be in effect. Also, NO club membership will be needed to race, but pit discounts will still be honored.

Starting time will still be 5:30…SHARP!!
