SpeedZone August 29 results

Oshkosh, August 29- With a terrible weather forecast, the SpeedZone pressed on and was able to beat the odds, again, this season, and completed their final point night of the season Friday night on a smooth fast 1/3 mile clay oval.

All six regular divisions crowned champions with four of the six first time title holders.

The Outlaw Chassis Street Stocks were out of the chute first with Jeff Wicinski taking charge over Jim Pollnow, Lexii Ashcraft, Dan Knaus, Frank Knaus and Steve G Frank Knaus moved into the runner up spot on lap 5 and on lap 10, worked by Wicinski to the lead. Gawaresky followed into second with Dan Knaus, Jeff Jungwirth and Mark Schultz now in the hunt. Knaus was opening a lead as the race for the runnerup spot heated up with point leader, Jerry Winkler moving into the fray.

Dan Knaus took second on lap 14 and on lap 18, brought out the lone caution of the race stalling in turn 2.

This bunched the field and set up a 2 lap dash to the finish. Frank Kanus still held the lead with Mark Schutlz, Gawaresky, Shawn Haydon, Ashcraft and Winkler behind. Knaus was up to the challenge and fought off Schultz to claim his first feature win of the season. Schultz took the runner up finish with Gawaresky in thirds. Haydon took fourth over Ashcraft with Winkler taking 6th and win the 2014 track title. The title was Winklers second with the first in 2007.

Randy Schimmel led the was for the opening lap of the Total Power Sales IMCA Stock Car feature with David Hoernig taking the top spot on lap 2. Mark Schuenemann made a run at the front on lap 5 and immediately took off to hide as the rest of the field strung out behind.

Schuenemann continued to run away from the pack with Justin Jacobsen holding second until dropping back on lap 12. Larry Karcz and Rod Snellenberger moved into second and third on lap 15 but followed well behind Schuenemann as he collected his second feature win of the season. Karcz took second with Snellenberger third. Point leader, John Heinz, took fourth and with it his first SpeedZone track title. Jacobsen and Travis Van Straten rounded out the top six.

Heinz claimed his first SpeedZone track tile by 4 points over Karcz.

Tim Doehling set the pace in the Gold Star Racing Products main event followed by John Schultz III, Brian Henry, Terry Van Roy and Derek Schrath.

A series of 5 cautions on lap 5 kept the race to a crawl with Doehling again setting the pace when the green re-appeared. A final caution on lap 7 sent point leader, Jeff Richards down pit lane and Doehling again took the point for the final restart of the race. On lap 10, Henry and Charlie Sancinati made a three wide pass around Doehling entering turn three with Henry taking the lead. Henry ran off with his division leading 5th feature win of the season with Sancinati taking the runner up spot. Doehling took third with Van Roy, Larry Richards and Nick Schumacher rounding out the top six.

Jeff Richards entered the night with a three point leader over Sancinati, each looking for their first ever SpeedZone title. Richards returned to the race after his trip down pit lane, but ended up finishing 8th. Sancinati’s runner up finish earned him the title by 2 points over Richards.

The Automotive Supply Company IMCA Modified division signed in 31 cars for the program and 21 took the green for the feature.

Will Sorce led the way through a series of 6 cautions over the first 6 laps. After the lap 6 restart, Eddie Muenster took over the lead and just set out to hid from the field. Brad Lautenbach and Jared Siefert followed into second and third and ran hard for the runner up spot with Muenster taking leave on the field.

A final caution on lap 13 bunched the field for the final time and Muenster again took off on the restart and ran to claim his second feature win of the season. Lautenbach held off Siefert to take the runner up spot with Brian Drexler, Jeff Steenbergen and Sorce rounding out the top six.

The Modified title chase was decided before the final race with defending champion, Sean Jerovetz holding a 50 point lead entering the night. The chase ends with Jerovetz taking his second straight title by 28 points over Mike Wedelstadt.

The IMCA Sport Mod feature had a title chase in the balance with 1 point separating Ryan Besaw and Steve Schneider.

Bill Edler took the lead for the first four laps before Adam Pescheck took over on lap 5 and started to pull away from the field. Pescheck clipped a tire in turn 2 on lap 8 and spun turning the top spot over to Nick Schultz with Edler, Schneider, Jeff Schmuhl, Besaw and Jon Schultz behind.

Schultz led the way into the second half of the race with Schneider and Besaw moving into second and third and chasing down the leader. On lap 15, Schneider was able to work inside and took the lead with Besaw right behind. Schultz would not give up and stormed back on the outside and re took the top spot 2 laps later. Schultz maintained the lead to the finish to collect his first ever SpeedZone feature win. Schneider and Besaw swapped back and for to the checker with Schneider takig the runner up spot with Besaw third. Schnuhl, Join Schultz and Brian Bruechert rounded out the top six.

The title ended up with a tie for the championship at 515 marks each for Schneider and Besaw.

The Ellington Mutual Insurance Co Dirt Devil nightcap saw Nate Lisowe take the lead at the start, and much like the other divisions tonight, survive several cautions over the first 4 laps. After the restart, Lisowe continued as the leader with Seth Hickman Joe Minks, Kasey gross and Jason Fairbank behind. On the final restart, point leader, Shaun Bangart, dropped out of the race and left the door open for second place Gross to make a run.

On lap 10, Gross closed up on the leader and on lap 14 was able to get by to take the top spot. Lisowe stalled on the next lap causing the final caution but Grass was in charge and drove off to win his 3rd feature of the season. Hickman took the runner up finish with Minks in third. Defending thiree time champ, Fairbank, took fourth with Erik Kollmann and Christopher Maas rounding out the top six.

The point chase started with Bangart holding a 19 point margin entering the night over Gross. When Bangart dropped out of the race, there were 16 cars on the track giving him a 17th place finish. Even with Gross winning the race, he ended up 3 point shy of the title. Bangart clinched his first ever SpeedZone title.

This was the final regular season race at the SpeedZone Raceway. The management and staff would like to THANK all the drivers and fans for their great support all season long.
