Seymour August 27 update
Seymour – August 27- The Summer Holiday Classic will bring the regular season to a close this Sunday night at the Seymour Speedway.
The five regular season weekly divisions will run for points for the final time this season. Track championships will be decided in three classes with the 2 open wheel modified divisions ready to be written in the record books.
The Budweiser IMCA Modifieds already have their champion. After a bit of a slow start this season, 2 time and defending champion, Jason Czarapata has already etched his name in the 2014 slot. After last weeks 3rd place finish, he has a 41 point lead entering this weeks race over Mike Wedelstadt. The race for the runnerup spot is open yet with Chad Bartel and Jamie Schmidt within 10 points of Wedelstadt.
Czarapata ran to a division leading 5 feature wins which included a string of 4 straight from June 29 through July 20. The wins put him in a tie for 4th on the all time feature win list with 21. He is also only the 4th driver in the division to win three track titles. Brian Mullen leads the way with 7 career titles at Seymour. Benji LaCrosse has 4 titles and Czarapata now joins R.M. Van Pay with three. Czarapata joins LaCrosse as the only 2 drivers to with three straight championships. Even if Czaapta would not sign in to runthis week, only 40 point are available for a feature win.
Congratulations to Jason Czarapata as he bested 51 other drivers to win his third straight Budweiser IMCA Modified track Championship.
The IMCA Sport Mod division has a similar situation. Jeremy Cota has worked up the ranks this season and holds a 525-489 point margin over Lucas Lamberies entering this weeks program. If Cota signs in to race this Sunday, he will earn his first career track title. If he would miss, Lamberies could claim the title with a top 4 feature finish.
This will be a turn around from the past 2 seasons when he has led during the season only to lose the title on the final night of racing.
Cota started the season slowly but collected a division leading 4 feature wins during the season, including three of the past four weeks. The wins added to his division leading all time feature win total giving him 17. The title will make him the 7th different title holder since the division became a weekly in 2008.
Congrats on a successful season to Jeremy Cota and good luck securing you first career track title.
The other divisions will be highlighted over the next 2 days.
Remember that this final leg of the Holiday Classic series will NOT have the Late Models compete. It will be our five divisions plus the Spectator Eliminators. They will be competing for the increased Holiday Classic purse as in the past. Grandstand and pit admissions will NOT change this week and will be the same as the regular season.
Pit will open at 3, Grandstand at 4 with racing at 5:30 PM…SHARP!!!
Following the races this week, everyone is welcome to the pit area for a corn roast and free beer.
The racing season will end with an added race the following week with a special SATURDAY, September 6th race. Racing will be at 5:30.
We hope to see you all at the Seymour Speedway during the BIG final Holiday weekend Sunday night.
